Locksmith, the main Easter egg of Rave in the Redwoods: the three rituals for Kevin Smith, the twist on the boat, the fight against the giant Slasher on Turtle Island and the reward, from the Soul Key to the Smiley.

Before the quest

Locksmith is the main Easter egg of Rave in the Redwoods. It gives the second piece of the Soul Key and can be done in solo or with other players. Three things come first:

Turn on the power, in the basement of the Bear Lodge.
Build the boat engine with its three parts and take the boat to Turtle Island.
Fix the projector of the cabin on Turtle Island with the two reels.

Kevin Smith

In the cabin on Turtle Island, he refuses to leave until there is a way out of the film. Talking to him starts the quest.

Step 1: the first half of the photo

Pick up a torn photo in the Recreation Area, behind the zombie effigy, across from the Karma-45. The face on it is scratched out.
Place it in the Thunderbird Amphitheater, between the damaged tree and the tents. A ritual starts: everyone is forced into Rave Mode and zombies keep coming.
Shoot the arms off ten zombies near the photo. The arms around it sink into the picture.
Try to pick the photo up: the Slasher appears and everyone leaves Rave Mode, so he can be killed with normal weapons. He drops a Max Ammo, and a Nuke goes off.
Pick up the photo, now showing Jason Mewes, and bring it to Kevin.

Step 2: the second half

Pick up the second half in the bunk room upstairs in the lodge, near Tuff ‚Nuff and the Volk.
Place it in the middle of the rave, in the Recreation Area, and kill at least ten crawling zombies near it.
Kill the Slasher again, then take the photo, showing Kevin, to Kevin. A memory plays: Wyler accused the two friends of ruining the legacy of his films.

Step 3: the skull

In the basement of the lodge, near the way out to the Old Marvin Mine, take the skull of a crumpled skeleton.
Bring it to White Tail Beach and get headshot kills near it.
Kill the Slasher a third time and pick up the skull. Kevin disappears from the cabin, and a button in the basement of the lodge can now be pressed.

If a player dies during a ritual, a Nuke goes off, everyone leaves Rave Mode and the ritual site can be used again.

Step 4: the twist

After the button is pressed, Kevin waits on the boat to Turtle Island. During the ride he remembers that he killed Jason himself, falls into the lake and comes out as the giant Slasher, destroying the boat and stranding the actors on the island.

The boss fight

The Super Slasher

The giant form of Kevin Smith, fought on the beach of Turtle Island. Skeletons replace the zombies during the fight.

In the forced Rave Mode, kill zombies near the glowing orbs around the island until each of them rises into the sky.
Lure the Slasher into the circle that appears on the beach, then shoot the spot that glows on him until Rave Mode ends.
Shoot every glowing spot on him; he retreats to the roof of the cabin.
Get into one of the green circles before the area burns, and hold out against the skeletons until Rave Mode comes back.
Repeat twice. The third time, instead of the fire, the Slasher comes down to attack: shoot him until he dies.

The reward

The Soul Key

The second piece appears where the Slasher sinks into the ground. Picking it up plays the end cinematic, in which the actors are pulled into a 1970s subway train, and unlocks Locksmith.

The Smiley

From then on, the Slasher’s buzzsaw waits in the basement of the lodge in every game. Killing a Slasher with it unlocks Tables Turned.

Playing as Kevin Smith

Playable after the quest: enter right, left, left, down, down, right in the pre-game lobby. Doing so unlocks Super Slacker.

In the First Room

None of the quest can be done doors closed: it starts with the power and the boat, both outside the Bear Lodge. In a First Room game the Slasher only shows up through Rave Mode after scene 10, and he cannot be hurt then.
