The Sentinel Artifact

On Voyage of Despair, the Sentinel Artifact takes the place that the power switch held on the older maps. It waits on the Poop Deck, at the stern of the ship, at the opposite end from the Forecastle where the game starts. The perk altars do not need it, but the Pack-a-Punch does.

The Odin Artifact

The artifact of the map is the Sentinel Artifact of Odin. In the intro, a member of the Order steals it from Scarlett in the cargo room and sets it off with the key he tore from her necklace, which turns the people on board into zombies.

Activating it

Interact with it on the Poop Deck. The red doors of the ship open, the fast travel portals start working and the four Pack-a-Punch pedestals appear.

The Odin altar

The fourth perk altar, in the Engine Room under the Poop Deck, can only be reached once the artifact is activated.

The four pedestals

The pedestals stand in four places, the same in every game:

Poop Deck

At the stern, near the artifact.

Lower Grand Staircase

At the bottom of the grand staircase.

Turbine Room

Among the flooded engine rooms at the back of the ship.

Cargo Hold

Deep in the bow, below the Forecastle.

  1. Activate the Sentinel Artifact on the Poop Deck.
  2. Activate each of the four pedestals. The Pack-a-Punch appears on the last one activated, with a chime and a chorus.
  3. From then on, the machine moves to another pedestal every few rounds, and only stands at one of them at a time. Going to an empty pedestal tells the player where it has gone.

Fast travel

Once the artifact is active, portals carry the players from one end of the ship to the other, from the bow to the stern, with a landing in the middle of the ship that the player can choose during the trip. The I Know a Shortcut achievement asks for every fast travel path in a single game.

The flooded decks

The Cargo Hold and the engine rooms, the Engine, Turbine and Boiler Rooms, are under water. A valve in each of these rooms drains it. A player who stays under water too long starts to drown, and the Off the Deep End achievement asks to survive to round 20 without draining the water.

In the First Room

The Forecastle is at the bow and the artifact is at the stern: doors closed, the artifact cannot be reached, so the Pack-a-Punch never appears, the portals stay shut and the Odin altar is out of reach for the whole game.
