Before the quest

Bye-Bye, Dark Aether is the main quest of Liberty Falls. Alpha Team looks for three scientists: Dr. Kyle Moline lies dead in Olly’s Comics, Dr. Annette Pelletier on top of a van beside Speed Cola, and Dr. Pericles Panos, the only one alive, is trapped in the Dark Aether that has swallowed the inside of the church.

The Simultaneous Dimensional Gateway

The machine of the church, beside the Ammo Cache. Activating it starts the quest and connects Panos to Alpha Team.

The steps

  1. The Thrustodyne M23: build it in Room 202 of the Motor Lodge, or get it from the Box.
  2. The three parts of the LTG: with the primary fire of the Thrustodyne, pull out the part floating in a null-gravity field beside Panos, the one in a hole of the ceiling of Olly’s Comics above Moline, and the one in the window of the Buzz Cuts barber shop, across from Pelletier.
  3. The LTG: the Limited Transdimensional Gateway is built on its own bench, on the roof of The Alamo.
  4. The first canister: take an Aether Canister from the machine of the church (its carrier can only walk) and put it on a Dark Aether Field Generator. Place the LTG on its platform under an Aether Storm, in the cemetery or on Riverside, and defend the portal for a minute against zombies with purple eyes, Heavy Zombies and Manglers.
  5. The high-value target: a Mangler or an Abomination comes out of the portal. Bring it down until it starts to glow, lure it onto the field generator and kill it there; its essence fills the canister, which must reach the church within about a minute and a half.
  6. The Strauss Counter: the machine of the church gives it in place of the tactical. Turn on the three projectors, on the Hilltop Stairs, in the Groundskeeper’s Yard and on the roof of Yummy Freeze, and set each one according to the color the counter shows near it. The device by the Pump & Pay then releases the second canister.
  7. The second canister: same defense, same target, under the other storm.
  8. The last stand: with both canisters in, the machine locks the team in the church. Each kill charges the orb above it, through waves of Armored and Heavy Zombies, Vermin and Manglers, a swarm of Manglers, a high-value Mangler and finally a high-value Abomination.

The second canister

Held in dark energy by the Pump & Pay, at the edge of the First Room, until the three projectors are set.

Placing the second canister is a point of no return: once the machine is used, the last stand starts. Support that has to be called from outside cannot reach the church while it lasts.

The ending

When the Abomination falls, the gateway fires and downs the whole team, with no way to revive. Panos takes their place: he leaves the Dark Aether in flesh and bone, thanks Alpha Team for being “volun-told” and walks away with a few scores to settle, as Blanchard loses contact. A team that keeps playing reappears on the roof of the Pump & Pay, among perks, Bonus Points, Aether Tools, Aetherium Crystals, Legendary weapons, Salvage and a wonder weapon.
