The quest

Heads Up! is the main quest of Shi No Numa. The Special Forces must restore the memories of Saraxis the Shadow, so that she can tell them about the relic that cast her out of her host. It needs the Wunderwaffe DG-2, and it can be done solo or in co-op.

Step 1: the monolith

  1. Outside the Doctor’s Quarters stands a monolith covered in vines. Clear them by blowing up Boom Schreiers next to it.
  2. In the Doctor’s Quarters, a sheet of paper on a table shows kanji next to runes. Burn it with a Molotov Cocktail or Thermite to reveal the whole list; it is the same in every game.
  3. Find the three parts of the Cypher Wheel: on a table of the Dormitory, in the room to the right of the Demonic Fountain of the Doctor’s Quarters, and on the table in front of the Pack-a-Punch at the Dig Site. Assemble them in the middle of the monolith.
  4. Three kanji are hidden on sheets of paper: on a table of the Excavation Room under breakable books, on the Crafting Table of the Dig Site and on a table of the Comm Room. Turn the wheel, from top to bottom, to the rune that matches each of them.

Step 2: the first Echo

With the right runes, stones light up around the monolith, one per player. In co-op every player must use his stone at the same time. A lockdown follows: zombies wrapped in blue mist come, and they must be killed with the Wunderwaffe near the monolith before it ends. If it fails, Vercanna says the players can try again later, in the next round. If it works, a blue Echo of Saraxis appears and speaks with her.

Step 3: the Relic Mirror

  1. The Elder Gods send the players after the two pieces of the Relic Mirror, caught between the mortal world and the Dark Aether. Kill zombies with the Flogger: their bodies are thrown into the broken Demonic Fountain of the Flogger Courtyard until it fills with blood.
  2. Drink the blood: it gives a vision like Zombie Blood, which shows the pieces. If the vision ends too soon, drink again; after a few drinks the fountain has to be filled again.
  3. For the first piece, look at the map of the War Room: a red X marks the hut where it hangs. Shoot it down from the ceiling and pick it up.
  4. For the second piece, follow a red orb that appears somewhere in the Main Hut.

Step 4: the altar

The Dig Site

The new area of the map, north of the Main Hut, where the altar of the Relic Mirror stands near the Pack-a-Punch.

Place the two pieces on the altar of the Dig Site. A blue orb appears on a stone and flies away once touched: find it and shoot it back towards the Dig Site, several times. When it is home for good, stones light up near the altar, one per player, to call the Echo again.

Step 5: the Echo of Saraxis

The Echo takes the shape of Saraxis and tells her the truth: she was once the bride of Kortifex the Deathless, punished for bearing his child, her memories wiped and herself made his servant. Saraxis refuses it, and the Echo attacks.

The masks

As with Zaballa, the weak points of the Echo are its three masks.

The bubble

To hurt it, charge the Relic by killing enemies in blue mist with the Wunderwaffe nearby. A blue bubble then lets the players damage the Echo.

Three phases

The blue mist covers ordinary zombies in the first phase, Boom Schreiers in the second and Sturmkriegers in the third.

The reward

With the third mask broken, the memories of Saraxis come back in a cutscene: she speaks of Kortifex and of his obsession with the Construct. The Mirror can be picked up, and the players earn the Heads Up calling card, a pile of loot and a Max Ammo. The Relic Mirror appears again in The Archon, the last map of Vanguard Zombies.
