Before starting

Tin Man Heart is the main quest of Mauer der Toten. Kravchenko orders the Requiem agents to build an Inversion Warhead, close the Dark Aether portal under Berlin and stop Aleksandra Valentina. It needs:

  • the power and the Pack-a-Punch;
  • Klaus, rebuilt, then upgraded at least once;
  • the CRBR-S, and its Blazer mod kit.

Step 1: the Secret Lab

Send Klaus to the wall at the far end of the Sewer Access. He punches through the bricks and reveals a reinforced wall. Shoot it with the CRBR-S Blazer until it melts: behind it is a hidden lab of Projekt Endstation. Walking in ends the current round and starts a round of Tormentors; when it is over, the orange barriers around two of the devices of the lab drop.

Step 2: the essence canisters

  1. Take the three empty canisters that rise from a pedestal of the lab.
  2. Place one in each of the three Essence Harvesters of the game, green-lit boxes drawn among seven spots: the Sewer Access, the West Berlin Street, the Alley, the Ghost Station, the Korber Rooftop, the Destroyed Penthouse and the East Berlin Streets.
  3. Shoot open the cabinet of the lab with the CRBR-S Blazer to take an Endstation Lure; it comes back after each use.
  4. Throw the lure next to a harvester: Tempests appear. Kill them until the canister glows purple, then carry it back to the pedestal while Manglers and Tormentors attack. Repeat for the three canisters.

Step 3: the train

With Klaus upgraded, send him onto the far set of tracks of the Ghost Station, across from Mule Kick: he raises his hands. In the Switch Control Room, pull the lever of the terminal. A two-car train comes and Klaus stops it; board it quickly and take the nuclear warhead and the keycard of Agent Rico before it leaves again. If it leaves too soon, the lever can be pulled again the next round.

Step 4: the Hacking Helm

Rico’s keycard turns on a Requiem terminal of the Safe House, which shows the Dimensional Disruptor but refuses access. Klaus must wear the Hacking Helm to get past the security. Its three parts drop when shot with the CRBR-S:

Antenna

The antenna tower of the Apartment Rooftop, the roof of the First Room.

Transistor

One of three cassette players of the Electronics Store.

Electronic boards

A green box above the ticket window of the Ghost Station.

Craft the helm on Klaus while he sits in his chair. The helm can be built earlier in the game.

Step 5: the uranium

  1. Use the Dimensional Disruptor. Requiem fires a beam into Checkpoint Charlie, which brings an Apex Megaton, two Apex Mimics and a horde.
  2. The Megaton drops two chunks of corrupted uranium, and a five-minute timer starts. Carry each chunk to one of the two workbenches, in the Military Tent and in the West Berlin Street, to craft a Uranium Device. The uranium hurts its carrier, who can drop it.
  3. Place one device at each end of the zipline between the Destroyed Penthouse and the Korber Rooftop. They slide into each other in the middle and drop a clean uranium rock on the street.
  4. Bring the rock to the pedestal of the lab. The next round, do it all again; the beam then strikes the Apartment Rooftop.

If the timer runs out, the uranium detonates and the game ends.

Step 6: Valentina

A red rift opens in the lab and Valentina steps out, corrupted by the Dark Aether. Every time she loses a fifth of her health, she flees, in order, to the Destroyed Penthouse, the East Berlin Streets, Checkpoint Charlie and the West Berlin Street, then back to the lab. In co-op, all the players are teleported to her when one of them reaches her.

Protected by a blue shield that breaks easily but comes back.

Crystal volley

Three orange orbs over her head fire a stream of crystals at one player.

Life drain

A ring of floating zombies around her refills her health: kill them fast.

Tormentors

She calls a swarm of them.

The blast

From her first move on, she charges a blue ball and the screen fills with mist: hide out of her sight or be downed. A Juggernog at Tier V with armor survives it.

Step 7: Klaus and the warhead

Beaten, Valentina is strapped into the conversion module; her essence charges the warhead. Klaus takes it and walks slowly into the portal: protect him from the zombies that pour out of it. If he falls, the game is lost.

The reward

The first completion gives the « Tin Man Heart » Dark Ops calling card.

The name of the quest comes from the Tin Woodman of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, who wants a heart. Hugo Jager makes the link on seeing Klaus: « Requiem has its very own tin man! »
