The power

On Die Maschine, the power switch is at Main Power, past the Particle Accelerator, deep in the underground facility. From the Yard, the route goes through the old bunker, out to the Crash Site and down into the facility. A guide gives this route and these prices; the in-game purple arrows on the walls point the same way:

  1. Omega Outpost door: the green door of the Yard, 500 points.
  2. Staircase debris: up the stairs of the old bunker, 500 points.
  3. Upstairs wall: at the end of the next room, on the right, a wall to blow up for 1,000 points.
  4. Crash Site debris: outside, at the bottom of the Crash Site, 1,250 points.
  5. Facility door: free.
  6. Control Room: of its three doors, the one to the east, 1,500 points.
  7. Particle Accelerator: the door from the Medical Bay, 1,500 points.
  8. Main Power: one last door, 1,750 points, then the red power switch.

Juggernog, Quick Revive and Stamin-Up do not wait for the power: they run on generators of their own.

Stabilizing the accelerator

With the power on, the cyclotron of the Particle Accelerator must be stabilized. Two computer terminals stand on either side of it; once both are used, a Dark Aether anomaly forms in the middle of the machine.

The rift

The anomaly at the heart of the cyclotron. Holding the interact button over it takes the players into the Dark Aether, a dark mirror of the map.

The Dark Aether

The same map in purple light, with the zombies still in it. The first trip has no time limit: it lasts until the Pack-a-Punch is built or the round ends. Every later trip is on a short timer.

Forging the Pack-a-Punch

  1. In the Dark Aether, find the Aether Tunnel on the surface; it is marked on the screen. It costs 500 points and leads to an underground room.
  2. In that room, pick up the part of the spectral machine.
  3. Go back to the centre of the cyclotron, where the rift was, and put the part in the rough, ghostly structure. The players return to the normal map with a real Pack-a-Punch Machine, and earn the Heavy Metal achievement.
  4. If the time runs out, the anomaly comes back about one round later, elsewhere on the map, and the work goes on from where it stopped.

The Pack-a-Punch has three tiers: 5,000 points for the first, 15,000 for the second and 30,000 for the third, each one raising the damage of the weapon.

In the First Room

Doors closed, none of this is reachable: the power switch lies eight doors and obstacles away from the Yard. A First Room game is played with the loadout weapon and whatever drops, without perks, without the Pack-a-Punch and without any trip into the Dark Aether.
