Step 2: the Seal of Duality

The Apothicon Blood

It demands three offerings and names where each one is with a riddle, such as « where lines berth », the zipline of the Docks.

1. Collect the three offerings the Blood names among twenty possible spots.
2. Find the Seal of Duality, again from a riddle: a bulletin board in Specimen Storage or in Geological Processing, a wooden board in the Ice Grotto, or a framed map in the Boathouse. Melee it, place a Dynamite Bomb on it, and pick up the Vril Vessel.
3. Back in Artifact Storage, shoot the floating Blood until a small orange orb flies off somewhere on the map.
4. Hit the orb with a snowball to turn it blue, shoot it back to Artifact Storage, then snowball and shoot it again so it returns to the Blood. Three times in all; the orb flees if approached too closely.
5. Pick up the Seal of Duality.

Step 3: the Elemental Shard

1. At the Sunken Path, place the Seal on the campfire and throw a Music Box into it. The fire turns blue and Primis and Ultimis are heard talking about the Kronorium. Take the Seal back.
2. The Hermit gives two soapstones: heat one in the Boathouse trap and freeze the other in the Decontamination trap.
3. Without touching any water, place them in the control panel of Human Infusion and take the fuse from its middle.
4. Put the fuse in the power panel by the metal door of the Lighthouse Station.
5. Shoot the red battery hanging from the electric towers near the Facility Entrance and the Loading Platform, then kill an Electrified Zombie by each of three generators: on the upper platform of the Lighthouse Station, by the MX9 of the Lighthouse Approach and by the trap of the Boathouse.
6. The charged fuse opens the metal door, behind which is the Elemental Shard.

Step 4: the Agarthan Device

1. Repeat the orb step in Artifact Storage and the campfire step at the Sunken Path.
2. Send the Seal up to the Hermit on his pulley and survive the lockdown, then take it back.
3. Place it in the Pack-a-Punch at each of its four spots, the Beach, the Lagoon, the Sunken Path and the Boathouse, following the lighthouse beam, and kill zombies around it to charge it.
4. Do the orb step one last time, in Artifact Storage, and the campfire step again.
5. Place the Seal in the Golden Pack-a-Punch and charge it with kills.

The escort

The Seal leaves the machine inside a red shield and floats to Human Infusion. Every Element 115 of the map is transformed and the water turns to lava. The players stay inside the shield, charge the Seal with kills when it stops, and survive in Human Infusion until the shield has shrunk away.

The Agarthan Device

Picked up in Human Infusion and given to the Hermit. It opens a portal that sends him, now Pablo Marinus, to the Great War.

The Device then floats down to the Forecastle. Picking it up starts the ending cinematic.

Step 5: The Way Through

Samantha and Eddie

After the cinematic, the player controls Samantha Maxis and young Eddie Richtofen and walks them out of the Dark Aether into a new universe, while Primis and Ultimis are heard talking about their lives to come. The screen turns white, and the Aether story ends.

The quest earns the achievement Salvation Lies Above. Its name is the message written on a wall of Nacht der Untoten, and its description, « Ascend from Darkness », is another one.
