The First Room

The starting room of Origins, its floor of planks and the stairs of the upper level, Origins, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

On ZFRR, the First Room of Origins on Black Ops III is the same starting room as in the original: the two-level room where the Primis crew appears, with Generator 1 on the upper level and two doors out, one towards Generator 2 and the tank station, the other towards Generator 3. Every player starts with 500 points, the Mauser C96, the knife and frag grenades.

The doors are bought, so a First Room game keeps them closed. An update of July 2017 lowered the price of the doors of the starting area for online solo games, and made the first captured generator give a Double Points in solo. What changes most in the room is its two walls, which now sell weapons of Black Ops III:

RK5 burst pistol, Gunsmith render, Origins, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

RK5

500 points, a three-round burst pistol, on a wall of the room. It replaces the M14 of Black Ops II.

Sheiva semi-automatic rifle, Gunsmith render, Origins, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

Sheiva

500 points, a semi-automatic rifle, the second wall buy of the room. It replaces the Ballista of Black Ops II.

Generator 1 on its platform in the starting room, Origins, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

Generator 1

On the upper level of the room, the only generator a First Room game can reach. Templar zombies climb out of the ground while it charges. Once it runs, it powers Quick Revive and the machines of the room.

The GobbleGum machine of the starting room, lit up next to the challenge box, Origins, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

GobbleGum machine

A machine new to the remaster stands in the room, next to the challenge box. The first gum of each round is free. The reference board of ZFRR allows none.

The challenge box

The Rituals of the Ancients box of Generator 1. 115 headshots earn a Pack-a-Punched weapon and 30,000 points spent earn Double Tap II, both without leaving the room.

Quick Revive

1500 points, or 500 in solo, in a corner next to Generator 1. It needs the generator.

Shovels

Two of the four shovels of the map always lean against the walls of the room.

Mystery Box spot

One of the Box locations lies in the room.

No Panzer Soldat

The Panzer only comes once the door to No Man’s Land is open, so it never lands in a First Room game.

The Origins (Black Ops III) leaderboard keeps separate boards for solo and for two, three and four players, apart from the Black Ops II board. The reference category is No GobbleGums. Its rules:

Doors closed

Reach the highest round you can without opening any door.

No GobbleGums

Neither Classic nor Mega GobbleGums are allowed.

Full rounds

Every round must be played in full, and glitches and exploits are not allowed.

Generator 1 strategy

Blocking the spawns with the Generator 1 strategy is not allowed.

Crawl Space

Allowed in co-op games, for sleeper purposes.

Reward box

Patching the first reward is allowed, and so is a patch that removes the MP40 from the rewards of the box, leaving a 50% chance of a Weevil and 50% of an ICR-1.

Double Tap

Getting Double Tap back after reconnecting is not allowed.

Video

The whole game must be recorded, each player shows their gum loadout before, during or after the game, and in co-op a player who does not show the lobby needs their own point of view.

Where to post it

A Twitch video must be saved as a highlight, since past broadcasts are not accepted; a YouTube video must be public or unlisted.

Two more boards, Classic GobbleGums and Mega GobbleGums, keep the doors closed, the full rounds and the ban on the Generator 1 strategy, with gums allowed. On the Mega board at least one Mega GobbleGum must be used, and Flavor Hexed, Self Medication, Near Death Experience, Power Vacuum and Round Robbin are not allowed.

Overview

Origins on Call of Duty: Black Ops III is the remake of the last Zombies map of Black Ops II, rebuilt in the engine of Black Ops III with new textures and the zombie AI of the game. It closes Zombies Chronicles, the fifth downloadable content of the game, with seven other classic maps: Nacht der Untoten, Verrückt, Shi No Numa, Kino der Toten, Ascension, Shangri-La and Moon. The map itself, its story and its quests are covered in the book of the original Origins.

What changed in Black Ops III

Arsenal

The walls and the Mystery Box sell weapons of Black Ops III instead of the Cold War weapons of Black Ops II. The weapons made for the map, such as the Mauser C96 and the MG-08/15, return.

GobbleGums

GobbleGum machines are added, one of them in the starting room.

Perks

Der Wunderfizz stays, with Double Tap II in place of Double Tap, and Widow’s Wine in place of PhD Flopper.

Ray Gun Mark II

Added to the Mystery Box, as on every Zombies Chronicles map.

Boomhilda

The upgraded Mauser C96 can be packed again and again to roll the Alternate Ammo Types of Black Ops III.

Rituals of the Ancients

The 115 headshot reward is now a Pack-a-Punched weapon of the new arsenal, the ICR-1, the Weevil or the MP40, instead of the SCAR-H, Galil or STG-44 of Black Ops II.

Iron Fists

The upgraded One Inch Punch no longer carries the element of the staff the player held.

Golden Helmet

It is now worn on the head of the character, in game and on the portrait.

Maxis Drone

A player can carry the drone or Trip Mines, but not both.

Templar eyes

The Templar zombies keep the orange eyes of the other zombies, where Black Ops II gave them blue eyes.

Enemies

The Panzer Soldat standing in the trenches, its helmet light on, Origins, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

Panzer Soldat

The armoured zombie with a flamethrower and a claw returns, with the spawn sound of Der Eisendrache. An update of July 2017 rebalanced its health and fixed its pathing.

Templar zombies

The undead knights in white and red come out while a generator charges and haunt the tunnels and the Crazy Place.

A giant robot walking over the trenches in the snow, Origins, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

Giant robots

Freya, Odin and Thor walk the map as they did on Black Ops II. The update of July 2017 stopped them from downing players in the trenches and players wearing the Golden Helmet.

Weapons

Every game starts with the Mauser C96. The walls sell fifteen weapons, Trip Mines and frag grenades. Two of them are in the First Room:

Black Ops II sold the M14 and a Ballista in the starting room, and the Five-Seven, B23R, AK-74u, MP40, STG-44, Remington 870 MCS, Claymores and Semtex elsewhere. Only the MP40 and the StG-44 keep a wall in the remaster.

The Mystery Box, the Boomhilda and the staffs

Easter egg

The main quest is still Little Lost Girl: build and upgrade the four staffs, place them in the giant robots and the Excavation Site, win the Iron Fists and free Samantha. The steps are those of Black Ops II. A Black Ops II glitch that let one staff fill every pedestal no longer works, and the achievement is now worth 15 Gamerscore and a bronze trophy instead of 75 and a silver one.

Agartha

The quest ends in the Crazy Place, where Samantha is freed.

Secrets

Remember Forever

A song new to the remaster, sung by Tori Letzler. Shoot four wisps, visible in Zombie Blood, on the lowest ring of the Excavation Site, each with the matching staff; then a Samantha doll in the centre of the Crazy Place calls a circle of dolls to shoot.

Archangel and Shepherd of Fire

The two songs of Black Ops II stay, with three blocks of Divinium and three red radios. On Black Ops III the radios have lost their front panel.

Aether

The third song, played by going prone in front of the 1 floor panels of Generator 1 and a 5 at Generator 5.

Achievements

The remaster keeps two of the ten achievements of Black Ops II, both bronze trophies worth 15 Gamerscore: Little Lost Girl, for freeing Samantha, and Overachiever, for completing the four Rituals of the Ancients challenges in one game.

Trivia

  • The game files of both versions call the map zm_tomb.
  • A set of papers in a mortar crater on the path of the tank, between Generator 5 and Generator 2, lists names of Treyarch staff, among them Jason Blundell, Max Porter and Kevin Sherwood.
  • The eyes of Richtofen, green on Black Ops II, are blue in the remaster.
  • Going prone in front of the Pack-a-Punch no longer gives points, as it did on Black Ops II.
  • On Black Ops III, a player who revives a teammate sometimes says an “out of ammo” line.
  • The loading screen keeps the poster of Alex Ross used on Black Ops II, with less noise.
