Dr. Straub

From the start of a game, Straub appears in one of several hidden spots of The Darkest Shore, only where no player is looking, and leaves when someone looks straight at him. Shooting him unlocks Still Lurking, for the player who shot him only. He stops appearing when the final boss fight begins.

Where to look

Among the known spots: the zombie window halfway up the stairs of the Beach Passage, the stranded submarine of the U-Boat Pens, the windows and the roof of the Artillery Bunker, the broken bunker next to the M1941 on the Overlook, and a doorway of the minecart tunnel facing the chamber of Nerthus.

The Classic

The Classic is a special PPSh-41 with a 70-round drum, more reserve ammo and a faster rate of fire. To add it to the Mystery Box, drop Jolts in the path of the friendly Bomber during the escort of the main quest until it has picked up 1,000 Jolts. It then becomes one of the weapons the Box can give.

Smaller secrets

The beach strewn with dead fish after the beach rush, with the message Survived the beach, The Darkest Shore, Call of Duty WWII Zombies

The dead fish

The beach of the First Room is covered in dead fish, and the sea runs red.

The “HI” beam

Inside the zombie window facing the minecart in the U-Boat Pens, two I-beams hang above a door. Shooting the left one about eight times turns it sideways: the two beams spell “HI”, and the game gives a single Jolt.

An upgraded Jack-in-the-Box

A Jack-in-the-Box from the Mystery Box thrown into the hole of a wooden box behind the whale, on the beach, comes back in the boss fight: the red Meistermeuchler drops it, and it explodes on the zombies and the bosses around it.

Hidden characters

Challenge sets tied to the map, followed in the Dossier of the lobby, unlock new playable characters. A few of them:

CharacterChallenges
Bloodraven Hunterthree parts, A, B and C, dropped by Treasure Zombies
Deathraven Hunterreach wave 26 without opening any door (“You should put on sunscreen”), reach wave 21 with the darkness locked away, and reach wave 21 without sprinting
The Mountaineer from Ruskealaobtain the pommel without being hurt by an anointed enemy, without any special ability, and without hitting an enemy with a Ripsaw blade
Bloodraven Slayerescort the Artillery Loader without any damage, sink every ship without missing, and make ten Bomber headshots in a row from the minecart

The beach challenge of the Deathraven Hunter is played like a ZFRR game: every door stays shut.
