The Brazen Bull

The Brazen Bull is the shield of IX, named after the bronze torture device of ancient Greece. Like every shield, it blocks the damage from the side it covers, held in front or carried on the back, until it breaks. It also carries a katar, a punching dagger.

Katar

The melee attack of the shield is a double strike of the katar, not a bash. After nine kills, the gems of the blade all glow and the katar catches fire: its strikes then set the zombies alight, until the fire dies out after a few more kills.

Bull gun

Aiming slots the katar into the shield, which then fires bursts of flaming projectiles from the nose of the bull.

The three parts

The three parts are found in three of the four towers. Each one has three possible spots, drawn at the start of the game.

The bull

In the Ra Altar Room: to the right of the gong, on a pillar next to the wall buy, or between two pillars around the corner.

The Zeus part

In the Zeus Tower: at the feet of the statue in the Zeus Altar Room, in the hand of a statue by the stairs of the entrance, or on a shelf of the Bath House.

The Odin part

In the Odin Tower: next to a barrel of spears in the Odin Altar Room, in the shield rack of the entrance, or against a wooden pillar of the Cauldron room.

The shield is built at the workbench of The Pit, under the map. A broken shield is bought again at the same bench, and a Carpenter power-up repairs it.

The Iron Bull

Each player can upgrade their own shield into the Iron Bull, silver, with a green flame on the katar and its projectiles, more damage and more durability. The three parts of the upgrade look like the parts of the shield with a starry texture, and they come in order:

  1. The bull heads: shoot the three metal bull heads at the top of the Zeus Tower with the gun of the shield, one on the ceiling, one above the Mystery Box spot and one on a pillar above the Titan wall buy. The first part then appears high in the dome of the Temple; shoot it down and pick it up.
  2. Four flames: light the katar four times with melee kills of the shield. Each time, the shield gets eight melee kills, then a ninth on a Catalyst, a Destroyer or a Marauder, a different kind each time. After the fourth flame, keep the katar lit: the second part waits in the hand of a headless statue at the Odin-Zeus Temple Entrance.
  3. Two champions: with the katar still lit, kill a Destroyer and a Marauder with it. The third part appears above a doorway of the Fallen Hero; shoot it down.
  4. The workbench: with the three parts, the workbench of The Pit gives the Iron Bull.

In the First Room

None of the three parts is in the Arena, and the workbench is under the map: a First Room player never has a shield.
