The Death of Orion

The Death of Orion is the wonder weapon of IX: a living scorpion chained to a frame, which fires lightning from its claws. It comes from the Mystery Box, for 950 points like every Box spin, or for sure at the end of a short quest.

Single shots

One shot is loaded at a time, but the next one loads at once: the weapon fires as fast as the trigger is pulled, with 45 shots in reserve.

Charged shot

Holding the trigger charges a shot that catches an enemy and holds it in the air, hurting it over time. Lightning then leaps from it to the enemies around, which stop and take damage.

Lasting slow

An enemy that survives the lightning glows orange and walks for the rest of its life, whatever the round.

Serket’s Kiss

The Pack-a-Punched version, with more damage and more reserve ammo. Getting it unlocks the achievement Gift of Serket.

A charged shot can catch any enemy but kills only the weakest ones outright: zombies, Catalysts and Zombie Tigers. The heavy enemies usually need to be hurt first, and Fury and Wrath cannot be caught at all.

The quest

The quest needs the Pack-a-Punch, the Acid Trap and a good crowd:

The urn of fire: once the Pack-a-Punch is open, a wall breaks in the hallway near the Danu-Ra Temple Entrance and shows a grate. Shoot the urn of fire on the pillar behind it. A line of fire draws an arrow on the ground, seen from the stone bridge between the Danu and Ra towers.
The stone head: the arrow points to a tower. On the lowest floor of that tower waits a stone head: in the water of the Arboretum (Danu), behind a bowl of fire in the Burial Chamber (Ra), in the bath of the Bath House (Zeus), or beside the big cauldron (Odin). Pick it up.
The Acid Trap: build the trap at the entrance of the Danu or the Ra tower, set the head on the grate in front of it and turn the trap on. The acid melts the head down to a small scorpion key.
The tree: in the Arboretum, at the bottom of the Danu Tower, knife the hole in the tree to set the key. Sap starts to drip.
The golden jar: keep the crowd at full thumbs up for a full round. The High Priest says „A gift from Serket“ and the crowd throws a golden jar into the Arena.
The poison: set the jar under the dripping sap and come back for it the next round, full.
The Box: take the jar to the Mystery Box and poison it. Its next spin is the Death of Orion.

Constellation Prize

The achievement asks for nine zombies killed with a single uncharged shot of the Death of Orion.

Easter egg

The main quest needs the weapon twice: three charged shots grind the skull in the Flooded Crypt, and the symbols of Channel the Flood are lit with it.

In the First Room

The Box never stands in the Arena and the quest goes through the towers, so the Death of Orion is out of reach of a First Room game.
