The First Room

The Underbelly at the start of a game, with the caged-off tunnel behind its bars and pipes along the brick ceiling, 500 Jolts on the HUD, The Shadowed Throne, Call of Duty WWII Zombies

On ZFRR, the First Room of The Shadowed Throne is the Underbelly, the cellars under the ruins of Berlin where the four agents start every game. Each player starts with 500 Jolts and the weapons of their own loadout, chosen in the menu before the game. The Underbelly is a low, dark basement of brick tunnels, with a caged-off passage lit by fires on the other side of its bars.

Sawed-off Shotgun

500 Jolts, a double-barreled shotgun, in a weapon locker of the Underbelly.

Kar98k

500 Jolts, a bolt-action rifle, in the second weapon locker of the Underbelly.

US Shovel

A free melee weapon lying on the ground, near the locker of the Sawed-off Shotgun.

A weapon locker sells its weapon and, later, its ammunition. The two lockers of the Underbelly are the cheapest of the map, with the Reichsrevolver of the Destroyed Building.

The Lebenblitz machine with its green poster under a golden eagle, with the 500-Jolt self-revive prompt, The Shadowed Throne, Call of Duty WWII Zombies

The Lebenblitz machine

500 Jolts in solo, 1,500 in co-op. The game sells it as an « automatic self-revive » in solo, three times at most; in co-op it makes reviving faster. It is the only Blitz machine of the Underbelly.

Resupply Package

A green bag next to the Sawed-off Shotgun. A player who has bled out gets their weapons back from it for 500 Jolts.

The caged-off tunnel of the Underbelly, with the fuse box on the wall behind the bars, The Shadowed Throne, Call of Duty WWII Zombies

The caged-off tunnel

Behind metal bars, near the door to the Destroyed Building, hangs one of the two fuse boxes that open the Pack-a-Punch. It needs an explosive and the Wunderbuss, built behind the doors, so it stays shut in a First Room game.

Two doors of 750 Jolts

One leads to the Apartments, towards the workshop of the Wunderbuss; the other to the Destroyed Building, where the Pack-a-Punch elevator stands. Both stay closed.

The drop from Main Street

A wooden platform on Main Street breaks under the players and drops them into the Underbelly. It only works one way, from the street down.

No Geistschild

None of the six armor machines of the map is in the Underbelly, so a First Room game is played without armor.

No Mystery Box, no trap

The box starts in the Church and never stands in the Underbelly; the three traps are on Main Street, in the Cabaret and in the Plaza.

Enemies

Zombies, Pests, Bombers and Wüstlings come down into the Underbelly. The Gekochts only appear once a flare has called Straub’s zeppelin, and the Treasure Zombies once every area of the map is open, two things that happen behind the doors.

A clown doll sits to the right of the Sawed-off Shotgun locker. It is one of the dolls of the Perchta quest, but it only reacts once the projector of the Cabaret is running.

The The Shadowed Throne leaderboard has two categories, each with boards for solo and for two, three and four players: No Consumables, the reference, and With Consumables, where the consumables picked in the menu before the game are allowed. Its rules:

Doors closed

Reach the highest wave you can without opening any door or barrier.

Full rounds

Every round must be played in full.

No down barrier

Going down on purpose so that the body blocks the zombies out of part of the room is not allowed.

No consumables

On the No Consumables board, no consumable may be used. The With Consumables board allows them.

No glitches

Glitches and exploits are not allowed.

Video

The whole game is recorded and the players show the lobby before launching the map. On the No Consumables board, a co-op game needs the view of every player.

Where to post it

A Twitch video must be saved as a highlight, since past broadcasts are not accepted; a YouTube video must be public or unlisted.

The Shadowed Throne is the Nazi Zombies map of The War Machine, the second DLC pack of Call of Duty: WWII, after The Darkest Shore and before The Tortured Path. The mission briefing reads: « Berlin is burning, and the power of the final Reich has been laid bare. » The agents of Raven come to the capital to recover the Blade of Barbarossa, the second piece of the sword, before Doktor Peter Straub.

StartThe Underbelly, in the cellars under the ruins

Straub has fled Heligoland with his army aboard a fleet of zeppelins. The four agents stowed away on his command zeppelin, which now hangs over a city at war: the Soviets are in Berlin, and Straub’s undead are purging it. On the ground, the team reaches the Red Army by radio, lures the zeppelin over the district with flares, and searches the ruins for a hidden courtyard where a golden statue of Barbarossa keeps the blade.

From the Underbelly, the map climbs through the Apartments and the Destroyed Building to Main Street, then splits between the Cabaret and the Museum, which both open onto the Plaza and the Church. Two more areas only open during the main quest: Barbarossa’s Refuge, the hidden courtyard, and Straub’s zeppelin, where the boss fight takes place.

WWII and its Nazi Zombies maps

Characters

The four playable characters are the Raven agents of the Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives Program, as in every story map of WWII.

M

Marie Fischer

An engineer and tactician from Mittelburg, who tries to recover the treasures stolen by the Nazis and to free her brother Klaus from Straub.

D

Drostan Hynd

The Scot of the team, who keeps notes on the speech of the undead in his files.

O

Olivia Durant

A former art historian of the Louvre and member of the French Resistance, the weapons expert of the team.

J

Jefferson Potts

An American colonel of the team led by Major Hank Rideau, a soldier haunted by the men he killed.

P

Peter Straub

The creator of the undead, in his laboratory at the heart of the command zeppelin. He dies there, torn apart by his own specimens, at the end of the main quest.

M

Mikhail Saburov

A captain of the Red Army, whom the team reaches on the radio of Main Street. He asks them to lure the zeppelin over the district.

T

The Smuggler

A former assistant of Straub who stole one of his prototypes, the unfinished Wunderbuss. The team helps him through the sewers, and he later joins the fight as the Necromedic, a character unlocked on this map.

Enemies

A Gekocht with burning cracks across its body, its mouth glowing with fire, The Shadowed Throne, Call of Duty WWII Zombies

Gekochts

New on this map, also called Sizzlers: zombies turned by the bolt of Straub’s zeppelin, red with fire, much faster than the others, and they explode close to the players. They only appear once the flares have called the zeppelin.

The Stadtjäger raising its Geistkraft cannon, its three heads lit from behind, black and white achievement art, The Shadowed Throne, Call of Duty WWII Zombies

The Stadtjäger

The boss of the main quest, a giant with several heads, a saw blade on its left arm and a Geistkraft cannon on the right, fought on the zeppelin.

Zombies

The undead soldiers of Straub. Here they also attack the people still in the city.

Pests

Skinny, armless zombies kept alive by machinery. Fast but weak, they bite.

Bombers

Two zombies fused together, the one on the back holding a large bomb that explodes when it is shot.

Wüstlings

Brutes with a spiked claw for a right hand. Shot, they charge; their weak spot is the spine, on their back.

Treasure Zombies

Zombies that look like Bombers with a red and yellow bomb on their back and do not attack. They only spawn once every area of the map is open, and drop Jolts, a power-up or, rarely, a part of the Necromedic.

Blitz and Geistschild

The Blitz are the perks of WWII. A player can hold four at a time; completing the main quest of this map lifts that limit in later games.

Lebenblitz

500 in solo, 1,500 in co-op. In the Underbelly.

Laufenblitz

2,000. On Main Street, behind a Geistschild machine. Faster sprint and endless stamina.

Faustblitz

2,000. On the top floor of the Museum, near the Combat Shotgun. Double melee damage.

Schildblitz

2,000. Backstage in the Cabaret. Reloading releases a burst of electricity.

Kugelblitz

2,000. In the Plaza, to the right of the propeller trap. Double damage and a faster rate of fire.

Schnellblitz

3,000. On the ledge outside the main entrance of the Church. Faster reload.

Geistschild is the armor of WWII: it takes three fatal hits before the fourth one downs the player. It costs 500 Jolts at first and more each time it is bought, at six machines: in the Destroyed Building, in the basement of the Apartments, on Main Street, on the first floor of the Museum, in the Cabaret and in the Plaza.

Weapons

Seventeen weapons are sold in weapon lockers, from 500 to 1,600 Jolts, two of them in the Underbelly. The Mystery Box costs 1,000 Jolts a spin and starts in the Church.

Underbelly

The Sawed-off Shotgun and the Kar98k, 500 each. In the First Room.

Apartments

The Type 100 for 750 in the basement, the SVT-40 for 750 on the first floor.

Destroyed Building

The Reichsrevolver for 500 and the Waffe 28 for 1,000.

Main Street

The MP-40 for 1,000.

Cabaret and Museum

The M1928 for 1,000, the STG44 for 1,500 and the Lee Enfield for 1,600 in the Cabaret; the PPSh-41 and the Combat Shotgun for 1,000 and the M1 Garand for 1,250 in the Museum.

Plaza and Church

The BAR and the M1941 for 1,500, the FG 42 for 1,600 in the Church, and the Grease Gun for 1,000 in Barbarossa’s Refuge.

The Wunderbuss, side view, The Shadowed Throne, Call of Duty WWII Zombies

Wunderbuss

The wonder weapon of the map, a blunderbuss rebuilt around Geistkraft. Its beam of Geistkraft hits the zombies, and its siphon bolts drain them to refill the beam. It is built in the workshop of the Apartments.

Drostan Hynd driving the Blade of Barbarossa into a zombie, cinematic, The Shadowed Throne, Call of Duty WWII Zombies

Blade of Barbarossa

The broken blade of the sword, the prize of the main quest. Its swing sends out a wave of Geistkraft, but its kills give no Jolts.

Three special melee weapons

The Nachtmahr, the Perchta and the Holda, each hidden behind a quest, each a stronger version of a melee weapon of the map.

Every weapon, its price and its place

Wunderbuss

Two parts make the Wunderbuss: a battery, lying on an empty weapon locker in the Museum or in the Cabaret, and a Geistbolt, taken by killing a Gekocht with a melee attack. The radio of Main Street, a map in the Church and a crate of flares call in the zeppelin that makes the Gekochts. Both parts are then put together in the caged workshop of the Smuggler, in the basement of the Apartments.

The Wunderbuss, part by part

Pack-a-Punch

The Pack-a-Punch of WWII is the Ubersprengen. On this map it is hidden in a broken elevator of the Destroyed Building. Two fuse boxes must be blown open with an explosive, one next to the elevator and one in the Underbelly, then charged with the beam of the Wunderbuss. The elevator then falls into place. An upgrade costs 5,000 Jolts, and the machine sells ammunition for upgraded weapons for 4,000.

Opening it gives the achievement Das ist gut. Upgraded weapons take an ethereal sheen of blue and orange.

Special melee weapons

The Nachtmahr, a golden spiked bat, in its stone recess, The Shadowed Throne, Call of Duty WWII Zombies

Nachtmahr

The Smuggler’s Bat, a golden baseball bat with spikes. The team brings the Smuggler a weapon and Jolts to get him home, then finds the bat in his workshop.

The Perchta, a golden dagger, in its stone recess, The Shadowed Throne, Call of Duty WWII Zombies

Perchta

The Dancer’s Dagger, a golden knife that heals the player when it kills with its heavy attack. It waits in a safe of the Apartments, opened by a code earned at four clown dolls.

The Holda, a golden axe, in its stone recess, The Shadowed Throne, Call of Duty WWII Zombies

Holda

The Nazi Axe, a golden axe whose charge attack explodes on a kill. It is hidden in a drawer of the Museum, opened with a radio code, a magnifying glass and the head of a Gekocht.

Easter egg: Stadtjäger Down

The main quest takes the team from the ruins to the sky. The three special melee weapons open Barbarossa’s Refuge, where a puzzle of statues gives the Blade of Barbarossa. The Wunderbuss then overloads the four tethers of the zeppelin, and a drop pod lifts the team on board.

The zeppelin

Terminals move a power source under the gratings into Straub’s laboratory. His sleeping specimens wake up and kill him.

The boss fight

The Stadtjäger drops down by the drop pod. It can only be hurt while it attacks, over three phases, and it ends by shooting itself in the head with its own cannon.

The reward

The ending cinematic, the Stadtjäger Down achievement, and the limit of four Blitz lifted in later games.

Traps

The map has three traps, each marked by two electrical boxes with a light, each for 1,000 Jolts. None of them is in the Underbelly.

Hangman

A game of hangman on the sign above the entrance of the Cabaret, played by shooting the arrows of a dial. Each word gives a reward, and WONDER gives the Tesla Gun and the Ripsaw, the wonder weapons of the first two maps.

Thule’s Errand

A secret weapon camouflage, earned by tuning the radio of Main Street to a hidden frequency.

Recordings

Three audio files of Straub, each locked behind a small puzzle: on the zeppelin, under a box of the Cabaret, and in the arms of a dead woman in the Apartments.
