The wonder weapon

Gorgofex

A living hand cannon powered by bio-aether, new in Reckoning. It breathes, and a heart-like organ at its centre pumps energy through it. A shot fires a slug of Aether energy that hits hard in a tight area; a charged shot then spreads outward and opens a small gravity anomaly that lifts the enemies above head height and holds them there.

The magazine holds 12 shots, 24 once the weapon is upgraded. The Gorgofex can come out of the Mystery Box for 950 Essence, or be built for free with the quest below, which also counts for the main quest of Reckoning. In the story, Pericles Panos began it on the orders of a great voice from beyond and left only a Cyst behind when S.A.M. attacked the towers.

Building the Gorgofex

The quest opens once the Pack-a-Punch is on.

In the Mutant Research Lab, watch two monitors showing static: one between the Mangler tank and Deadshot Daiquiri, the other in the Test Area next to the tank holding the clones of Richtofen’s wife and child. They flash a word that changes every round; the first word is always on the Deadshot Daiquiri monitor.
Take the first letter of each word: together they make the symbol of an element on the periodic table of the Test Area. Its atomic number, padded with zeros to three digits, is the code. Platinum, Pt, gives 078.
Climb the stairs and type the code on the keypad: the Bioweapons Lab opens.
The left glass hood rises over a living Cyst. Weaken three Vermin, or Parasites, near it so that it can grab and absorb them, then three zombies. It does not eat kills, only enemies brought low. Then pick the Cyst up.
In the Quantum Computing Core, stand under three yellow Aetheric Flora. The Cyst drains them, held up in one hand, while each plant spits acid at the player.
In the Dark Entity Containment, start the Power Surge on the computer and reach the other monitors before the meter drops.
An Uber Klaus arrives. Break its shoulder coils, then draw it to the electrified panel in front of the Forsaken’s chamber: the Forsaken takes over the robot.
Kill both forms of the Forsaken, among purple-eyed zombies and Kommando Klaus. Interact with the purple orb he leaves: the Cyst joins with it into the Gorgofex.

Gorgofex C and Gorgofex N

The base Gorgofex cannot be Pack-a-Punched. It can be raised into one of two variants, and choosing one closes the other for the rest of the game, after which the other one can still come out of the Box. Both begin at the door of the Security Office in the Executive Suite, where John Blanchard, the security chief of Project Janus, is locked in.

Gorgofex C

For Blanchard, against Panos. Press the red button of the Reception: a Klaus robot shuts down the elevator up to the Quantum Computing Core. Reach the Core the other way, jump down the dead shaft pressing its three red buttons, then kill with the Gorgofex the bluish zombies that follow. Panos appears, and his essence is caught in the weapon.

Gorgofex N

For Panos, against Blanchard. Use the Strauss Counter of the Quantum Computing Core to find the Life Drain Essence and break its vial with a charged shot, gather a clean hood, a PC fan and tubing, and build the Essence Extractor at Blanchard’s door. A lockdown follows, Blanchard’s life is drawn into a vial, and the vial is brought back to the Bioweapons Lab.

Pack-a-Punched, the Gorgofex C becomes the Gorgofex Corpsloder, corpse and exploder, and the Gorgofex N the Gorgofex Necrodystonia.
