The Kraken

The Kraken is the wonder weapon of Voyage of Despair: a hand cannon with three barrels that turn after each shot. Each shot fires an explosive that knocks down the zombies it does not kill, and it cannot hurt the player who fires it, which makes it safe in the narrow corridors of the ship.

Kraken

6 shots in the magazine and 48 in reserve. It comes from the Mystery Box for 950 points, or for free from the quest below.

Cirein-Cròin Crasher

The Kraken after the Pack-a-Punch, with twice as many shots in the magazine.

The free Kraken

  1. Kill a Stoker by shooting its glowing weak point, revealed by shooting off the coal on its shoulders or its head. Killed this way, it drops a key.
  2. A chest appears in the Mail Rooms, the State Rooms, the Galley, Provisions or the Turbine Room. Open it with the key.
  3. Kill zombies next to it until it has taken enough souls. It then moves to another of these places. Fill it three times.
  4. The third time, an object floats in the chest. It tells where the Kraken will come: a telescope for the Poop Deck, binoculars for the Forecastle, a compass for the Boat Deck, a globe for the Mid Deck, and a fifth object for the Aft Decks.
  5. Go there: a tentacle rises from the sea and throws the Kraken onto a crate.

The Distillation Kit

The Kraken can take one of four elements at the Distillation Kit, a crafting station built on the workbench of the Engine Room, on the right after the first stairs when coming from Provisions.

The three parts

One in the Galley, one in the Cargo Hold and one in the 1st Class Lounge.

The element

Once the kit is built, a Catalyst killed with the Kraken can drop the essence of its element.

The price

3000 points to distill the element into the Kraken, or 6000 if it is Pack-a-Punched. When its ammunition runs out, the same steps start again.

The four elements

Breath of Leviathan

Fire. Fires two linked projectiles, like a chain shot, that explode after about a second of flight or on a wall. They do little damage to the zombies they cross.

Grip of Akkorokamui

Cold. A single projectile that leaves a small area where the zombies are slowed, as with Cryofreeze.

Inkanyamba’s Roar

Electric. A spread of small projectiles, like a shotgun, without explosions; the zombies it does not kill are knocked down.

Jörmungandr’s Fang

Poison. A projectile that goes through every zombie in its way and only explodes on the scenery, with a smaller blast that leaves the survivors dazed. The main quest needs it.

In the First Room

Doors closed, the Kraken is out of reach: the Mystery Box has no spot on the Forecastle, and the chests of the free quest are all behind doors. The ZFRR Purist board also allows only the Welling, the Strife and the Essex Model 07 as starting weapons, and no special weapon.
