The First Room

The Town Square under a stormy sky, the stone statue of the Guardian on its fountain in the middle, the village houses around it and the towers of the castle beyond, official image, Citadelle des Morts, Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Zombies

On ZFRR, the First Room of Citadelle des Morts is the Town Square, where every game begins: a cobbled square of the village below the castle, around a fountain crowned by the stone statue of a giant. The Tavern on its side belongs to the square, with its upper floor and its cellar, and a pile of rubble closes it off from the rest of the citadel. Like on every map of Black Ops 6, each player starts with the weapon of their own loadout. From the first second, the objective on screen reads “Search for a way into the castle”.

The Town Square has two doors to buy, one on each side. The western one opens onto the Nature Path, the road to the Hilltop; in a four-player game of Flapix, it costs him 1000 Essence, and no source checked gives its solo price. The eastern one leads to the Village Ascent, and no source checked gives its price. Both roads climb to the Courtyard of the castle. In a First Room game neither door is ever bought.

The Guardian statue

The giant with a hammer on the fountain in the middle of the square. It is the final boss of the main quest, which wakes it with a key placed at its feet; in a First Room game it never moves.

The Rampage Inducer, a glowing lantern in a dark corner of the Town Square, with its prompt Round Accelerant: Increase Difficulty, Citadelle des Morts, Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Zombies

Rampage Inducer

A lantern in a dark corner of the square, to the left of the bell tower. Its prompt reads “Round Accelerant: Increase Difficulty”: switched on, it makes the zombies spawn faster and move faster.

The hall of the Tavern, with its wooden staircase and the armor emblem of the Level II Armor Vest on the wall, Citadelle des Morts, Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Zombies

The Tavern

The big inn of the square, on two floors above a cellar. Its hall sells the Level II Armor Vest on the wall, and it holds one of the three Arsenals of the map.

Der Wunderfizz against the wall of the upper floor of the Tavern, next to a pool table, Citadelle des Morts, Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Zombies

Der Wunderfizz

On the upper floor of the Tavern, by a pool table. It sells every perk of the map, but in Standard mode it only opens at round 25; in Directed Mode it works at once.

The portal of the Tavern Cellar

A red portal in the cellar: “Fast Travel, Teleport to Entrance Hall”, for 500 Essence. No source checked says whether it can be used before the castle is opened. The Cave Slide and the Rampart Cannon also land in the square, but both start from parts of the map that stay out of reach.

GS45

750 Essence at Uncommon rarity, a pistol on a stone wall of the Town Square, the only wall weapon of the First Room.

The GobbleGum Machine beside a stack of beer kegs at the door of the Tavern, Town Square, Citadelle des Morts, Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Zombies

GobbleGum Machine

At the door of the Tavern, beside a stack of beer kegs.

No perk machine

No Perk-a-Cola stands in the square. Doors closed, the only way to a perk is the Wunderfizz from round 25, or the free PhD Flopper of the bartender Easter egg, whose bottles lie in the castle.

Crafting Table and Ammo Cache

The square also has a Crafting Table, in the cellar of the Tavern, and an Ammo Cache.

What stays out of reach

The Mystery Box, whose spots include the Hilltop, the Village Ascent and the Dungeon; the Pack-a-Punch, at the bottom of the castle; every Perk-a-Cola; and the Exfil radio, on the Hillside Ramparts.

Enemies

Zombies, then the special enemies of the map: Vermin and Parasites from the special round 6, Armored and Heavy Zombies, Amalgams, and Doppelghasts from round 12.

The Citadelle des Morts leaderboard keeps five categories, each with boards for solo and for two, three and four players. Purist is the reference and opens by default. Two groups follow, No Support and With Support, each split into No GobbleGums and All GobbleGums; they count in the player ratings with a lower difficulty. How a round of Black Ops 6 compares with a round of the older games is explained in Black Ops 6: Rounds. The rules:

Doors closed

Reach the highest round you can without opening doors, and play every round in full. Glitches and exploits are not allowed in any category.

Purist

The starting loadout and nothing else. No perk, no Mystery Box, no GobbleGum, no Field Upgrade, no Arsenal, no Crafting Table and no Support, and no Self-Revive beyond the one each player starts with.

No Support

No scorestreak, and nothing from the Support section of the Crafting Table; picking up a scorestreak should be avoided. Armor plates are picked up or bought on the wall, never at the workbench. In solo, only the starting Self-Revive; in co-op, up to three per player, dropped by zombies.

With Support

Every support item may be used.

GobbleGums

On the No GobbleGums boards, the only gum allowed is Anywhere But Here, to get unstuck, with a timestamp; keeping the three Whimsical gums in the pack is advised, as one used by mistake does not void the run. On the All GobbleGums boards every gum is allowed, but not the timed-out gum.

Black Ops 6

Every game is played on the latest patch. Saving and quitting or crashing the game to void a down, a Dying Wish or a game over is not allowed, and a patch that changes the balance of the game can reset a board.

Video

The whole game must be recorded, with every player’s point of view in co-op on every board but With Support, All GobbleGums, whose rules do not ask for it. A Twitch video must be saved as a highlight, since past broadcasts are not accepted; a YouTube video must be public or unlisted.

Overview

Citadelle des Morts, French for “Citadel of the Dead”, is the third Zombies map of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, after Terminus and Liberty Falls, and the first one added after launch. It came out for free on December 5, 2024, with the Season One Reloaded update. The mission briefing: “A criminal hideout in an ancient castle is overrun by the undead. Find the captive demonologist, seek the Amulet, and defeat its Immortal Guardian.”

Players1 to 4

The castle once belonged to Guy de Saint-Michel, a Templar knight steeped in the occult who ruled the land with his four bastard sons. To them he left four swords, and to one of them the Obscurus Altilium, an amulet guarded by a stone golem. The descendants of the sons founded the French Syndicate, which now uses the abandoned citadel for its crimes. Almost a week after Terminus, the crew comes to find Gabriel Krafft, a prisoner of the Syndicate who may know how to bring Samantha Maxis back from the Dark Aether.

The castle

The keep stands above the village. Its great door cannot be bought: it has to be broken open with the Rampart Cannon of the walls.

Characters

The players are Weaver, Grey, Carver and Maya, or the Operators of the multiplayer in a non-canon game. Peck and Ravenov guide them on the radio.

Enemies

An Amalgam, a mass of bodies with several screaming heads and long tentacles, among zombies on the ramparts, official image, Citadelle des Morts, Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Zombies

Amalgams

Masses of fused bodies with several heads and long tentacles.

Doppelghasts

New with this map: tall creatures that explode when they die, slowing the players around them. They come from round 12, and one is locked in the Oubliette Room, where it guards the Pack-a-Punch.

Great helm zombies

Once the Pack-a-Punch is on and from round 10, zombies in great helms, almost immune to headshots, drop the stamps of the Bastard Swords.

The Guardian

The stone golem of the Town Square and the final boss of the main quest, fought in an underground arena flooded with lava.

Vermin and Parasites come with the first special round, round 6, and Armored and Heavy Zombies join them in the later rounds.

Perks

The machines are spread across the village and the castle. None stands in the Town Square.

Deadshot Daiquiri

On the Nature Path, outside the barn of the Hilltop.

Speed Cola

On the eastern road, just before the Courtyard.

Elemental Pop

In the tower of the Hillside Ramparts.

Melee Macchiato

On the Hillside Ramparts.

Juggernog

In the Entrance Hall, near the door of the castle.

Stamin-Up

In the Sitting Rooms.

Vulture Aid

In the Dining Hall.

Quick Revive

In the Dungeon, at the bottom of the castle.

PhD Flopper

No machine: it comes free with the bartender Easter egg of the Tavern, or from the Wunderfizz.

Weapons

Nine weapons hang on the walls, all Uncommon, from the GS45 of the Town Square for 750 Essence to the GPMG-7 of the Undercroft for 2,250. The Mystery Box adds the rest of the Black Ops 6 arsenal, the Ray Gun and, since Season Three Reloaded, the Ray Gun Mark II.

The Bastard Swords

The wonder weapons of the map, four swords in the melee slot, freed with stamps from the knight statues of the Dining Hall. Each has its own trial, which forges it into Caliburn, Durendal, Balmung or Solais.

The Incantations

Four elemental tacticals, Legendary, won in rituals once the swords are forged.

The four swords and the Incantations, step by step

Every wall weapon, its price and its place

Into the castle and Pack-a-Punch

There is no power switch. The way to the Pack-a-Punch runs from the Town Square up to the Courtyard of the castle, then onto the Hillside Ramparts, where the Rampart Cannon has to be cranked a half turn under attack to blow open the great door. Inside, two paths lead down to the Oubliette Room, where a caged Doppelghast holds the Blood Aetherium Crystal that wakes the machine. The first level costs 5,000 Essence.

Rampart Cannon

Once the door is down, it fires players back to the Town Square for 500 Essence.

Point of Power Traps

Red rune circles, 1,600 Essence each, that raise the damage of the players inside. They only work once the Pack-a-Punch is on.

The road to the castle, the cannon and the Pack-a-Punch

Easter egg: the Guardian

The main quest frees the amulet that Krafft asks for. It needs the Pack-a-Punch, then the four elemental swords and the four Incantations. Its steps:

  1. Talk to Krafft through the door of his cell in the Dungeon, and gather four Torn Pages in the Sitting Rooms.
  2. Open the alchemical wall of the Undercroft with the code of six flasks in the Tavern, and lay the pages in its book.
  3. Kill zombies in four Point of Power Traps, in the order of the pages.
  4. Honour the four knights of the Dining Hall with their sword and their Incantation, then fill the Mystic Orb in four elemental challenges.
  5. Open the hidden study, take the Guardian Key, and place it at the feet of the statue of the Town Square to fight the Guardian.

Secrets

Maya’s revenge

From round 13, a radio of the Dining Hall answers a player who plays Maya, and leads to the cutscene where she kills Franco.

The bartender

Three bottles brought back to the bar of the Tavern turn the player into a bartender, for 7,000 Essence and a free PhD Flopper.

The Rat King

A cheese wheel from the Town Square, the mice hidden around the map, and a plate in the Oubliette Room.

The wishing well

A well of the Village Ascent that keeps up to 10,000 Essence for the whole team.

The side Easter eggs and the hidden power-ups

Trivia

  • The game files call the map zm_t10_bloodstone.
  • The four elemental swords take their names from blades of legend: Caliburn, an old name of Excalibur, Durendal, Balmung, another name of Gram, and Solais, from the Claíomh Solais of Irish myth.
  • In the ending cutscene, Krafft reveals that Edward Richtofen is his son, and sends the crew to the excavation site of The Tomb.
  • The Guardian came back in Black Ops 7, as the Burning Knight of Dead Ops Arcade 4: Papaback in Black, then as a boss of the Super Easter Egg of Rex Infernus.
  • The map has two songs: Slave, started with three headphones in the colours of Mister Peeks, and Caliburn, started with the sword of the same name.
