The First Room

The Lobby at the start of a game, the mainframe pad in the foreground and the Quick Revive machine lit at the bar under the golden eagle panels, Kino der Toten, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

On ZFRR, the First Room of Kino der Toten on Black Ops III is the Lobby, as on the original map: the entrance hall of the theater, where the Ultimis crew spawns around the mainframe pad. The room keeps its two levels, a ground floor with the bar and a balcony reached by a staircase on each side. The players start with 500 points, a 1911, the knife and frag grenades.

Three doors lead out, all closed in a First Room game. Two can be bought, towards the Upper Hall and the Lower Hall: one of them is sold for 750 points, and the price of the other is not documented in the sources consulted. The large door to the theater cannot be bought: it opens with the power, whose switch is backstage, at the far end of the map. Doors closed, the power stays off for the whole game, and the mainframe pad only answers « You must turn on the Power first! ».

RK5

500 points, a three-round burst pistol, on the wall of the balcony. It takes the place of the M14 of Black Ops.

Sheiva semi-automatic rifle, Gunsmith render, Kino der Toten, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

Sheiva

500 points, a semi-automatic rifle, on the wall of the ground floor. It takes the place of the Olympia.

Those are the only two wall buys of the Lobby. The room has four barriers. On Black Ops III the zombies can climb in through both doorways of the barrier under the stairs, where on Black Ops they only used the right one.

Quick Revive by the bar

The only perk of the Lobby: 500 points in solo, 1500 in co-op.

The GobbleGum machine

New on Black Ops III, between the two staircases. The first gum of each round is free. It stands in the First Room, but the reference ZFRR board allows no gum at all.

The mainframe

The pad in the middle of the room, where the players land after a trip through the teleporter. Doors closed, it never links.

A meteor rock under a glass dome in a corner of the Lobby, Kino der Toten, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

The first meteor rock

In a glass jar, in a corner by the barrier of the ground floor. It is one of the three rocks of the song « 115 », the other two being behind doors.

The Mystery Box gives no help either: on Black Ops its Lobby spot, on the balcony, was never the starting one, and no source consulted documents a change on Black Ops III. A First Room game is played with the two walls, the gums of the board and the power-ups.

The Kino der Toten (Black Ops III) leaderboard keeps separate boards for solo and for two, three and four players, in three categories: No GobbleGums, the reference, Classic GobbleGums and Mega GobbleGums. It is kept apart from the board of the original Kino der Toten: the room is the same, the game is not. Its rules:

Doors closed

Reach the highest round you can without opening any door.

No GobbleGums

On the reference board, neither Classic nor Mega GobbleGums are allowed.

Classic GobbleGums

A board of its own, where only Classic GobbleGums are allowed.

Mega GobbleGums

A board where at least one Mega GobbleGum is used. Flavor Hexed, Self Medication, Near Death Experience, Power Vacuum and Round Robbin are not allowed.

Crawl space

Allowed in co-op games, for sleepers only, on the No GobbleGums and Classic GobbleGums boards.

Full rounds

Every round must be played in full, and glitches and exploits are not allowed.

Video

The whole game must be recorded, and each player shows their gum loadout before, during or after the game. On the reference board, a co-op game needs every player’s point of view when the lobby is not shown.

Where to post it

A Twitch video must be saved as a highlight, since past broadcasts are not accepted; a YouTube video must be public or unlisted.

Overview

This version of Kino der Toten is the remaster of the first Zombies map of Black Ops, rebuilt in the engine of Black Ops III for Zombies Chronicles, a pack of eight classic maps. The theater, its rooms and its teleporter are those of the original, covered in the Kino der Toten book; this one only follows what changed. The mission briefing of the map menu reads: « Battle the undead in this theatrical installment on « Zombies ». New twists and clues could uncover the final plan. It’s show time! »

As on Black Ops, the four playable characters are the Ultimis crew, thrown into the theater after the teleporter of Der Riese overloaded. Samantha Maxis is the announcer, Ludvig Maxis speaks on the film reels and radios, and Doctor Monty, the voice of the GobbleGum machines, adds a radio of his own. Zombies Chronicles came with seven other remasters, from Nacht der Untoten to Origins, and with five Pack-a-Punch camos and two GobbleGums.

What changed in Black Ops III

The arsenal

The walls and the Box sell the weapons of Black Ops III. A few classics come back, such as the MP40 on its old wall, and the M16, the AK-74u, the Galil, the FFAR and the RPK in the Box.

GobbleGums

Six machines, one of them in the Lobby, another on the stage. ZFRR keeps one board without any gum and two boards with them.

Three new perks

Der Wunderfizz, a new machine on the stage, which only sells Stamin-Up, Widow’s Wine and Deadshot Daiquiri, three perks the map never had.

Double Tap Root Beer

The Double Tap Root Beer of the original is replaced by its Black Ops III version.

New in the Box

The Ray Gun Mark II, as on every remastered map of the pack.

The Pack-a-Punch

A second pack of 2500 points gives a weapon an Alternate Ammo Type, and the camo is a sharper, finer version of the circuit camo of Black Ops.

The zombies

A new artificial intelligence. They can now climb onto the stage or jump off it, which they never did on Black Ops.

Secrets and achievement

The song « Samantha’s Sorrow » and its hide and seek, a radio by Doctor Monty and the achievement « I’ve seen some things… ».

Perks

The five machines of the original return, and Der Wunderfizz brings three more. Only Quick Revive is in the First Room.

Quick Revive

1500, or 500 in solo. In the Lobby, by the bar.

Juggernog

2500.

Speed Cola

3000. In the Foyer.

Double Tap II

2000.

Mule Kick

4000. In the Upper Hall.

Der Wunderfizz

1500 for a random perk, on the stage next to a GobbleGum machine. On Kino der Toten it only gives Stamin-Up, Widow’s Wine and Deadshot Daiquiri, which have no machine of their own.

Weapons

Every game starts with a 1911, the knife and frag grenades. The walls sell eleven guns of Black Ops III or of the original, the Bowie Knife, the Trip Mine and frag grenades. Two of them are in the Lobby, the RK5 and the Sheiva, for 500 points each. The Mystery Box costs 950 points a spin.

Ray Gun, third-person render, Kino der Toten, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

Ray Gun

From the Mystery Box, as on Black Ops.

Ray Gun Mark II

New on this map with the remaster: a three-round burst of energy, from the Mystery Box.

Thundergun

The wonder weapon born on this map, from the Mystery Box. A blast of compressed air throws back and kills whole groups of zombies.

Monkey Bomb

The Cymbal Monkey, from the Mystery Box: it draws the zombies to it before exploding.

Every wall buy, its price and its place

Teleporter and Pack-a-Punch

The power, the teleporter and the projector room work as on Black Ops. Once the power is on, the teleporter by the stage is linked to the mainframe of the Lobby, then it sends the players to the projector room above the theater, where the Pack-a-Punch upgrades a weapon for 5000 points. After 30 seconds everyone is sent back, sometimes through one of four random rooms.

The teleporter

It keeps its design, with an Iron Cross in place of the swastika and three small lights in place of the single one.

The Dentist’s Office

One of the four random rooms of the trip back, with Samantha’s Room, its ruined version and the Conference Room.

Repack

On Black Ops III, a second pack of 2500 points gives the upgraded weapon an Alternate Ammo Type.

In a First Room game none of it can be reached: the power switch is behind the doors. The rooms and the projector are described in the Kino der Toten book.

Easter egg

Kino der Toten still has no main quest. The three film reels hidden in the random rooms and the song « 115 », started by three meteor rocks, work as on Black Ops and are covered in the Kino der Toten book. The remaster adds two things:

The blue metal door of the Alley under a small canopy, in a brick wall above a pile of planks, Kino der Toten, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

Samantha’s Sorrow

A second song, by Brian Tuey. Knock on the blue door of the Alley with the knife to repeat three series of raps, then find and shoot Samantha’s doll as it hides around the theater. The song plays and a Max Ammo drops.

Doctor Monty’s radio

A third radio, only on Black Ops III, tucked into a corner to the left of the Pharo wall buy. Monty wonders why the map is not called Kino der UNtoten, and points at Samantha’s Room.

Achievements

Zombies Chronicles added one achievement to this map, a bronze trophy worth 15 Gamerscore. It cannot be earned in a First Room game, since the teleporter needs the power.

The three Zombies achievements of the original Kino der Toten, The Collector, Sacrificial Lamb and See Me, Stab Me, Heal Me, are Black Ops achievements and did not come back.

Trivia

  • The game files call the remaster zm_theater; the original was zombie_theater.
  • A sign in the Lobby reads « Garderobe »; « Kleiderschrank » would have been the word for a wardrobe.
  • A baby can sometimes be heard crying near the stage.
  • The Mystery Box can still give the MP40. At launch its old wall in the Foyer sold the Kuda; the MP40 is back on it, for 1300 points.
  • The promotional image of the map for Zombies Chronicles shows the teleporter in front of the projection screen.
