The First Room

Inside Hoard More, the storage warehouse where every game starts, with its mezzanine and the graffiti "They are all gone", Infection, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare Zombies

On ZFRR, the First Room of Infection is Hoard More, the self-storage warehouse where the four survivors start every game. The players start with 500 points, an Atlas 45 pistol and four frag grenades, and without an Exo Suit: the suits are down in the Sewers, far behind the doors, so a First Room game is played on foot, with no boost, no double jump and no slide.

Hoard More has two doors, both sold for 1,500 points: one leads to Atlas Command, the other to Value Voltage, the gas station. In a First Room game they stay closed. Exo Zombies has no barriers to rebuild.

The MK14 wall buy glowing in its case, with the prompt "Hold for MK14, Cost: 500", Infection, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare Zombies

MK14

500 points, a semi-automatic marksman rifle, on the wall of the part of the warehouse that holds the Electrified Floor trap.

Bulldog

500 points, a shotgun, near the door to Value Voltage.

Those are the only two wall buys of the warehouse. The rest of the room:

Exo Medic upgrade icon, Infection, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare Zombies

Exo Medic, the one upgrade in reach

500 points in solo, 1,500 in co-op, inside Hoard More next to the Value Voltage door. It needs no Exo Suit: it speeds up revives in co-op and lets a solo player revive himself.

Electrified Floor

500 points a use, switched on facing the MK14. It electrifies the floor of the warehouse and damages the zombies on it, but not the players. A player who stands on it with an Exo Suit has the suit shut down by an EMP.

Power switch

Behind the spawn, on the left. On Infection, the Exo Upgrades, the traps and the 3D Printer need the power of their own area, and each switch gives 100 points to the player who turns it on.

3D Printer

The Mystery Box of Exo Zombies, 1,000 points. One of its five spots is in a small room upstairs, in a corner of Hoard More, but the printer starts the game in Atlas Command. A Power Surge power-up activates every printer of the map for 10 points.

No toxic gas

The Toxic Gas Zones only cover Atlas Command, Value Voltage and Burger Town. The warehouse is never gassed, and some players fall back on the spawn room in the late rounds when the three outdoor areas are contaminated at once.

Hosts without a cure

The Decontamination Zone is in The Pit, out of reach. A player infected by a Host has 60 seconds before turning, and is cured only when the last Host of the round dies.

The first special rounds of the map are scripted: a Civilian Extraction round on round 6, a Host round on round 8 and a Goliath round on round 10. The Goliath is the main threat of a First Room game: its hammer kills in two hits.

The Infection leaderboard keeps a single category, with separate boards for solo and for two, three and four players. Its rules:

Doors closed

Reach the highest round you can without opening any door or barrier.

Full rounds

Every round must be played in full.

The story follows Outbreak. In the intro, the four survivors make a last stand on top of a bus outside the burning Atlas facility, out of ammo, until an Atlas Warbird clears the horde. Atlas puts them in stasis and drives them to a Burger Town; the scene cuts from the intact restaurant at night to the same place in ruins by day. The map is laid out in six areas: Hoard More, Value Voltage, Atlas Command, the Sewers, The Pit and Burger Town.

Lennox

The Sentinel Task Force captain, played by Bruce Campbell. He appears in the ending cutscene, unlocked after rescuing 25 civilians in all, and becomes playable in Carrier.

Enemies

All the zombies of Outbreak come back except the Charger, with four new ones. Security Dogs no longer have rounds of their own: they spawn among the zombies.

A Goliath Exo Zombie with its shield and drain-cover hammer, Infection, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare Zombies

Goliath Exo Zombie

A soldier of the Goliath suit, turned and bloated, with a riot shield and a hammer made from a drain cover. It fires EMP missiles, kills in two hits and drops a Full Reload. It first comes on round 10.

Spikers, Oozers and Meatbags

Spikers throw shrapnel when shot in the body, Oozers leave puddles of acid behind them, and Meatbags wear tactical armor and helmets.

Hosts

They infect the players they hit, on their own rounds. On Infection, toxic gas also spreads over parts of the map.

Every zombie, the special rounds and the toxic gas

The Exo Suit, the power and the Exo Upgrades

The Exo Suits are in the Sewers, at the junction towards Value Voltage and Burger Town. The power of each area must be on to use its Exo Upgrade.

Exo Medic

1,500, or 500 in solo, in Hoard More. It needs no suit.

Exo Soldier

1,750, in Value Voltage.

Exo Slam

2,000, in the north-east corner of Atlas Command.

Exo Reload

2,000, in the Sewers, next to the hole down to Burger Town.

Exo Health

2,500, in Burger Town.

Weapons

Every game starts with an Atlas 45 and four frag grenades. The walls sell seven weapons, two of them in Hoard More, and the 3D Printer, at 1,000 points, gives a random weapon from a pool of Advanced Warfare guns. Upgrade Stations, at 2,500 points a use, stand in Value Voltage and Burger Town.

Magnetron, render, Infection, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare Zombies

Magnetron

The new weapon of the map, only from the 3D Printer. A directed-energy beam that slows the zombies in front of it and makes them explode; it can overheat. It is needed for the Easter egg.

Every weapon, its price and its place

Traps and utilities

Each area has a device that costs 500 points a use and needs its local power.

An Automated Sniper turret on its tower, aiming its red laser, Infection, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare Zombies

Automated Snipers

Atlas Command, in the building of the 3D Printer: two sniper turrets on the towers shoot the zombies of the area.

An Orbital Strike missile exploding in front of the Hoard More sign, Infection, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare Zombies

Orbital Strike

On the roof of Burger Town: missiles from a satellite hit random spots of the area, marked in red, with a 60-second cooldown.

Hoard More

The Electrified Floor, facing the MK14.

Ambulance

Value Voltage, near the entrance to the Sewers. Its siren draws the zombies for 15 seconds, then it needs 60 seconds to cool down.

Camouflage Spray

The Sewers: a smoke that hides the player for a short time.

Insta-Gator

The Pit, in the small room with windows next to the waterfall: alligators devour the zombies that wade through the water.

Civilian Extraction

On some rounds a civilian calls for help and must be escorted to a Warbird. A rescue gives each player a free upgrade of the weapon in hand; a failure cuts the power of every wall buy, 3D Printer and Upgrade Station for a while. The first of these rounds is round 6.

How a rescue works, its rewards and its penalty

Easter egg: MEAT IS MURDER

The main quest of Infection brings Bubby, the animatronic mascot of Burger Town, to life. It takes a golden skillet, a blood sacrifice, a burger cooked with the Magnetron, a recharged battery and the hand of a zombie bitten off by the Insta-Gator.

Bubby

Once activated, he either explodes and drops four power-ups, or fights at the players’ side for a round, then breakdances and explodes.

The reward

The hidden achievement MEAT IS MURDER, and a secret Upgrade Station inside the giant burger that takes a weapon to Mk 25.

Secrets

Toccata and Fugue

Three golden rocket shells play Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor: on a shelf facing the Upgrade Station of Value Voltage, on the ground to the right of the Exo Slam machine, and on the roof of Burger Town behind a grate.

The toilet

Holding the use button on a toilet of Burger Town flushes it.

Pitfall

After four uses of the Insta-Gator in one game, the exo boosts make the sounds of the Atari game Pitfall.

Achievements

Infection has ten achievements and trophies, worth 250 Gamerscore, among them Alright, Alright for reaching round 10 and Climbing the Corporate Ladder for round 25. The hidden one, MEAT IS MURDER, is the Easter egg.
