Pareidolia

The musical Easter egg of Shangri-La is Pareidolia, written by Kevin Sherwood and sung by Elena Siegman, the death song of Ascension and Call of the Dead. Hold the action button on three pieces of meteorite to play it.

First piece

In the starting area, behind the Quick Revive machine, left of the window, in the rubble behind a fallen pillar. It is within reach with the doors closed.

Second piece

By the bridge near the starting area and the moving walls of the Mud-Pit Maze, next to the Juggernog or Speed Cola machine.

Third piece

In the mines, in the room after the AK-74u room, inside the broken wall across from the Semtex outline.

The word means seeing a pattern, such as a face, where there is none. The Game Over song of Shangri-La is another one, “Coming Home”, which became the musical Easter egg of Moon.

Brock and Gary’s radio

Unlike the earlier maps, Shangri-La has a single portable radio. Its message and its place change as the main quest goes on, because the explorers’ fate keeps changing.

  1. Near the MPL: Brock and Gary arrive. “If this is truly a gateway to Agartha, my work will finally be validated!” Gary is less sure the place is abandoned.
  2. In the tunnel by the pressure plate, after step 4: they move through an aqueduct, and rocks fall.
  3. On the cliffside trail behind the waterfall, after step 5: Gary’s leg is freed.
  4. Under the waterfall, after step 7: Gary wants out “before spikes shoot out of the walls and the floors open up to a pit of lava”.
  5. On a crate by the Mine Cart, after step 8: they can reach the top.
  6. On the same crate, after step 9: they are out of the catacombs.
  7. At the foot of the temple, after step 10: they see an antechamber they cannot open; Gary wishes he had dynamite.
  8. In the mud at the foot of the temple, after step 13: Brock enters the antechamber and reads a name on the altar, “Rich-tof-en”.

Brock and Gary are never seen. A Sally, assistant to George Romero, is said to be trapped in the same time loop.

Small secrets

The exploding monkeys

Standing in a certain spot of the starting area, enter Up, Up, Down, A on Xbox, or Up, Up, Down, X on PlayStation, and the monkeys of the starting area explode. It does not work on Black Ops III.

The two skulls

On the altar of the Focusing Stone, the skull on the stone’s left, which looks like an alien’s, shows no bullet marks; the one on the right, like a Neanderthal’s, does.

Anti 115

In the game files, the giant meteorite of the eclipse is called “Anti 115”, the only mention of it in Zombies.

A rocket

Grab a power-up just before a monkey reaches it and the monkey runs back to the temple as usual, then a rocket flies off.

Unused teleporters

Four teleporter boxes sit under the map, never used.

First Room

Two of these secrets are in the starting area: the first piece of meteorite, which can be activated but not completed with the doors closed, and the exploding monkeys.
