The Casimir Mechanism

The main quest of Ascension, and the first main quest in the history of Zombies. On round 1, Anton Gersh calls for help: “Please, help me, she is coming! The Mechanism must be repaired!” Yuri Zavoyski, driven by Samantha’s voice, had tricked him into setting off a Gersh Device, and the blast left him trapped inside the Casimir Mechanism, the pod standing by the lander pad near Stamin-Up. Each step lights one of the pod’s four lights, and the last one sets Gersh free.

Before you start

Gersh Device, model render, Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies

Gersh Devices

One for the first step and one for the last. They come from the Mystery Box, three at a time.

The power

Several steps need the lunar lander, the perk machines and the monkey rounds.

The rocket

Launched, so the launch pad and the Pack-a-Punch are open.

The weapons of the last step

A Porter’s X2 Ray Gun (the upgraded Ray Gun), a Zeus Cannon (the upgraded Thundergun) and the Matryoshka Dolls.

Players

The steps were built for four players, but the quest has also been finished in solo.

The steps

  1. Move the generator: from the area of the MP5K and PhD Flopper, a power generator with a glowing white light stands in the rubble outside the base, and a high whistle can be heard near it. Throw a Gersh Device onto it. The black hole swallows the generator, and Gersh urges you on.
  2. Reroute the power: go to the lander pad closest to Stamin-Up. In the corner, a terminal with a bright screen now whistles. Hold the use button on it: the screen shows the eye of providence and the first light of the pod turns on.
  3. Press the four buttons: during a monkey round, small red buttons slide out of the walls next to four perk machines: opposite Juggernog, left of PhD Flopper, on the other side of the door frame of Speed Cola, and left of Stamin-Up. Press them together, within half a second; a beep confirms it, a buzz means try again.
  4. Hold the pressure plate: end a round with a crawler or two kept alive and lead them far away. On the launch pad, a clock appears on the wall of the room before the Pack-a-Punch. Every player must stand on the plate in front of it for two minutes; if anyone steps off, the clock starts again. At the end, a Nuke goes off and the round ends.
  5. Spell L-U-N-A: letters float along the lander’s flight path, but only when the lander is called from a terminal, with a player riding it. Call it from the centrifuge to the pad by Stamin-Up for L, back to the centrifuge for U, to the pad by Speed Cola and the Sickle for N, and to the pad by Stamin-Up again for A. A wrong letter or a bought ride starts the word over.
  6. Open the portal: back at the pod, by the Claymores near Stamin-Up, a small glowing orb lies on the ground. Throw a Gersh Device on it, then, before the black hole closes, hit it with the Porter’s X2 Ray Gun, the Zeus Cannon and a Matryoshka Doll.

The reward

Gersh thanks the crew and is set free. Every player who is up and not reviving receives a Death Machine for 90 seconds, three times the usual power-up. Then Samantha screams in rage and the screen turns black and white until she stops. On Black Ops, the quest gives no achievement.

Pitfalls

A wasted Gersh Device

At the generator, a device that lands too far away is lost, and Samantha giggles.

The clock

The two minutes restart as soon as one player leaves the plate, so keep the crawlers far from the launch pad.

The order of the letters

Only a called lander with a rider shows a letter. Buying a ride, or grabbing a wrong letter, resets the word.

First Room

None of it can be done with the doors closed: the quest needs the power, the rocket, the Pack-a-Punch and the whole map. In a First Room game, Gersh’s call on round 1 is all that is left of it.
