Conditions

Nuketown has no main quest, but it hides more than any other Survival map: three songs, a voice in a bunker, recordings from the Moon and the round 25 switch. Almost all of them share the same conditions:

Round 1 start

A game started on a later round in Custom Games does not run them.

Magic on

The default setting. With Magic off, the power-up shed stays empty too.

Original difficulty

Nothing runs on Easy.

Samantha’s Lullaby

Three teddy bears are hidden on the map. Each one gives off a faint sound until you hold the use button in front of it; a high-pitched sound confirms it. The order does not matter, and the third one plays Samantha’s Lullaby, the loading screen song of Moon.

Bus bear

In a window of the yellow bus, on the side facing the truck. In the street, no door needed.

The teddy bear on the top bunk of the bunk beds in the yellow house in Nuketown Zombies, Call of Duty Black Ops II Zombies

Bunk bed bear

On the top bunk of the small bedroom upstairs in the yellow house. Front door 750, then 1000 to go upstairs.

Garden bear

In the green house backyard, seen through a gap in the fence of the small garden at the back left. Front door 750, then the back door 1000.

Coming Home, 8-bit

Shoot or knife the head off every mannequin on the map. The game keeps 28 of its 54 mannequin spots each game, picked at random, so the hunt is never the same; some stand in the houses and the backyards. The last head starts an 8-bit Coming Home. Before the title updates of Black Ops II, the same Easter egg played an 8-bit Pareidolia instead.

The shed song

The third song comes from the power-up shed of the yellow backyard, whose power-up can only be taken once per game. Take that single power-up at the wrong moment and the song is lost for the game.

  1. Open the yellow house (750) and its backyard (1000).
  2. Open the shed door (3000) without taking the power-up behind it.
  3. Watch the counter of the population sign, which moves by one with every kill.
  4. Take the power-up while the sign reads 15.

An 8-bit track with Pareidolia and Re-Damned plays. The clock must have moved at least once before, which happens after the first kills.

Population sign, clock and shed

The two dials of the population counter on the Welcome to Nuketown sign, reading 48 in Nuketown Zombies, Call of Duty Black Ops II Zombies

Population counter

The two dials of the “Welcome to Nuketown” sign turn by one for every zombie killed, and roll over after 00.

The doomsday clock on its tower, the mushroom cloud behind in Nuketown Zombies, Call of Duty Black Ops II Zombies

Doomsday clock

Its hand moves each time the counter reads 99, 66, 33 or 00, and the clock chimes every fourth move.

Shed power-up

Every move of the clock swaps the power-up behind the shed door, always in the same order: Nuke at the start, then Double Points, Insta-Kill, Fire Sale and Max Ammo, and round again. You can see which one is waiting before you pay.

Marlton in the bunker

The concrete fallout shelter with its radiation sign in the green backyard in Nuketown Zombies, Call of Duty Black Ops II Zombies

Hit the door of the fallout shelter in the green house backyard, with the knife for example, and Marlton Johnson answers from inside with one of his TranZit lines, picked at random. It works once per round. In the story, the bunker is how Marlton survives the rocket and later joins the TranZit crew.

Transmissions from the Moon

Five recordings of Richtofen play from the television of the green house, following his progress on Moon:

RecordingWhenWhat is heard
1Start of round 3The egg bouncing around, and Richtofen cursing Maxis
2A round between 4 and 8Richtofen logging into a computer as “Teddy”
3A round between 10 and 16The pyramid opening and Samantha rising
4A round between 18 and 21Richtofen setting the Vril Generator
5Start of round 25Richtofen and Samantha switching souls

Round 25

The fifth recording ends the story of the map. As it plays, every zombie on the map is killed at once, the next ones come with blue eyes instead of yellow, and Richtofen becomes the announcer in place of Samantha. B2 allows a First Room player to switch the eyes to blue with the patch in a custom game.

The rocket

When the game is over, the end screen does not show the usual view of the map: the camera follows one of the rockets fired from the Moon down onto Nuketown, until the screen goes black.

The bus horn

Once per game, in a round between 5 and 9, the horn of the TranZit bus sounds near the street, as if it were leaving.
