The giant in the jail

Leroy locked in his cell in the jail in Buried, Call of Duty Black Ops II Zombies

Leroy is the friendly giant of Buried. He sits in the jail cell next to the first Mystery Box spot, reached by the stairs next to the Box or through the roof. Tall, painfully thin, in overalls with a bowl haircut, he looks like he has been starving in there for a long time. He never attacks the players on purpose, and he is the key to most of the map: without him, many paths stay blocked.

Leroy

The community’s nickname, given before his real name was known, after the Leeroy Jenkins meme, because of the way he charges when he drinks.

Sloth

His name in the game files.

Arthur

His official name, given later by the Kronorium. Samuel once calls him “the Giant”.

Setting him free

The key to Leroy's cell, a skull-headed key, model render, Call of Duty Black Ops II Zombies
  1. Take the key hanging on the wall to the left of his cell and open the door.
  2. Freed, he turns his back on you until you bring him Booze.
  3. Given Booze, he smashes the debris that keeps his cell closed and starts pacing between the jail and the Saloon, ignoring players and zombies until someone brings him something.

The key, the Booze, the Candy and the chalk all share one item slot: you can carry only one of them at a time. A dropped item stays where it fell.

Booze

Booze, the XXX jug that makes Leroy charge, model render, Call of Duty Black Ops II Zombies

Leroy drinks it and charges in the opposite direction from where he got it, breaking the first debris in his way. That is how you open the barricades in front of perks, chalk walls, passages and the mansion.

Where to find it

On a desk inside his cell, or on a table or the bar in the Saloon. One free bottle per round.

Buying more

1000 points at the Saloon’s cash register once the round’s bottle is gone.

Points for the run

The player who gave the bottle earns points according to how far he ran, from nothing to about 2400.

Out of the way

While charging he downs zombies, and players standing in his path. He can also pick up power-ups for you.

Candy

Candy, the bowl of sweets Leroy follows, model render, Call of Duty Black Ops II Zombies

Candy lies in one of the barrels of the Candy Store, which costs 750 or 1250 points to open depending on the side you enter from. Once a round’s bowl is used, the counter sells another for 1000 points. What Leroy does with it depends on where you hand it over:

Bodyguard

Handed over anywhere, he follows you and attacks zombies until it wears off.

Crawler nanny

Next to a crawler, he picks it up and carries it, cradling it like a baby, which keeps the round alive. Shoot or knife the crawler and he stomps on it.

Builder

Next to a workbench, he fetches the parts and builds the buildable in one go.

Box lock

Next to the Mystery Box before anyone uses it, he slams it so it never moves again.

Box respin

Next to a Box that just rolled a weapon nobody took, he forces it to roll again.

Box mover

Next to an empty Box spot, he carries the Box there, unless it has been locked.

Turbine runner

Next to a Subsurface Resonator, he brings it a Turbine.

Power-up swap

Next to a power-up, he turns it into another one.

Artist

Next to the chalk in the gunsmith, he draws the weapons at random spots, without points for you.

Handling him

Knife him

A melee hit makes him sprint for a moment, useful to bring him somewhere faster.

Never shoot him

Gunfire wounds him and he runs back to his cell and locks himself in. Reach him with Booze or Candy before he shuts the door, or get there first and he leaves it open.

Where the key goes

Left of the cell the first time, then on the judge’s bench in the Courthouse, in the middle room upstairs in the Saloon, or behind the deposit box in the Bank.

The mansion scares him

He refuses to go in and runs away if you lead him there.

The Paralyzer

Slows him down but cannot hurt him. The Head Chopper ignores him.

Story

Leroy and Samuel J. Stuhlinger, cinematic in Buried, Call of Duty Black Ops II Zombies

Later games turned him into a character with a past: Arthur was the loyal servant of the Wolf King, and he appears in one of the paintings of Der Eisendrache in Black Ops III. Sometimes, in Buried, he can be heard muttering Richtofen’s name.
