The First Room

The conference room, the starting room of Five, with its long meeting table, Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies

On ZFRR, the Five First Room is the conference room of the Pentagon, where Kennedy, McNamara, Nixon and Castro spawn at the start of every game: the long room with the meeting table, plus the small annex at one end, open to it, where Quick Revive stands. The game calls this start zone conference_level1. Everything the players can reach without buying a door is the First Room.

The only way out is the hallway, through two doors that are linked: buying one for 750 points opens both. They stay closed in a First Room game, so the hallway, Speed Cola, the MPL and the elevator down to the War Room are all out of reach.

Windows

Four windows and two sections of wall that zombies break through, six ways in. The game keeps only four of them active at a time, drawn at random.

The table

The long conference table fills the middle of the room. Treyarch added invisible walls by the two barriers next to it to stop a glitch onto the table.

No power

The power switch is in the labs, two floors down. In a First Room game it never comes on, and the room keeps its bright lighting.

Olympia double-barreled shotgun, menu render, Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies

Olympia

500 points, in the annex with Quick Revive.

M14

500 points, on the wall next to a barrier, by one of the two 750 doors.

Those are the only two wall buys of the room. Every game starts with the M1911, the knife and frag grenades; nothing else can be bought, and the Mystery Box never starts on the top floor.

Quick Revive

In the annex. In solo it works without power for 500 points, revives you when you go down, and disappears after three purchases. In co-op it costs 1500 and needs the power, so no perk can be bought in a co-op First Room game.

Teleporter

A pad in the room, dead until the power is on. It never works in a First Room game.

Electric trap

One of the two metal detector traps stands by Quick Revive. It needs a missing part found on the lower floors, so it stays off.

Red telephone

The first of the three telephones of the song Easter egg, by Quick Revive. The two others are out of reach.

Without power there is no Pentagon Thief: his rounds only start once the switch is thrown. Hellhounds are switched off on this map. A First Room game on Five is therefore zombies only, every round.

B2, whose rules ZFRR follows, has no rule of its own for Five: the general Black Ops First Room rules apply, and the Five leaderboard keeps a single board.

Doors closed

Opening a door is not allowed, and neither are out-of-bounds glitches.

Glitches

Fast knife is allowed; fast ray, rapid fire and abusing the fast grenade glitch are not.

Platforms

Steam, Plutonium, BGamer, Xbox and PlayStation are allowed, the Wii is not (Five is not on the Wii anyway). On Plutonium the anticheat text must stay visible; in co-op, the host’s view is required.

Settings

Fixed backspeed only in solo, frame rate between 20 and 250, fog and smoke must stay. Restricted graphic content is allowed on Five.

Overview

The War Room of the Pentagon, Five map selection picture, Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies

“Five” is the second Zombies map of Call of Duty: Black Ops, and the sixth Zombies map overall. Zombies break into the Pentagon during a meeting between President Kennedy, his Secretary of Defense, Richard Nixon and Fidel Castro, and the four men fight their way down from the conference room to the secret labs under the building. The official description: “The Pentagon is under attack! Washington is going to DEFCON 1 in this installment of ‘Zombies’.”

The map unlocks once the last campaign mission, Redemption, is finished, or by typing 3ARC UNLOCK on the computer terminal of the main menu. It has three floors joined by two elevators: the offices and the conference room on top, the War Room in the middle, the labs at the bottom. The first two floors reuse the models of the campaign mission “Executive Order”, the labs those of “Rebirth”.

Characters

Four real figures of the Cold War, the first time a sitting American president is playable in the series:

John F. Kennedy in the opening cutscene of Five, Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies

John F. Kennedy

35th President of the United States, who leads the group.

Robert McNamara in the opening cutscene of Five, Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies

Robert McNamara

Kennedy’s Secretary of Defense.

Richard Nixon at the conference table in the opening cutscene of Five, Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies

Richard Nixon

Kennedy’s opponent in the 1960 election. Castro asks what he is doing there, since “he lost”.

Fidel Castro in the opening cutscene of Five, Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies

Fidel Castro

Prime Minister of Cuba, invited “in good faith” after the missile crisis.

The opening cutscene shows the meeting going wrong: zombies at the windows, Nixon fainting, then Kennedy flipping a wall of the room to reveal an armory. The announcer of the power-ups is Samantha Maxis; a female voice of the Pentagon announces at the start of each game that the power level is critical.

Enemies

A horde of zombies crossing the conference table in Five, Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies

Zombies

They come through the windows and the broken walls of each floor. If every player leaves a floor by elevator before the power is on, the zombies left behind vanish in a ball of electricity and come back on the players’ floor.

The Pentagon Thief, a scientist in goggles and a lab coat covered in equations in Five, Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies

Pentagon Thief

A scientist who steals weapons instead of attacking, in special rounds that replace the Hellhounds. Only once the power is on.

Crawler zombies

The gas-filled crawlers of Kino der Toten, dropping from the vents. They only spawn while a player is in the labs.

The Pentagon Thief, his rounds and what he drops

Perks

Five has five perks. All of them need the power, except Quick Revive in solo.

Quick Revive poster, "Wow! I'm alive! Get revived!", Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies

Quick Revive

1500, or 500 in solo. In the annex of the conference room, the First Room.

Speed Cola poster, "Speed up your hands", Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies

Speed Cola

3000. In the hallway next to the conference room, near the first elevator.

Double Tap Root Beer poster, Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies

Double Tap Root Beer

2000. Top floor of the War Room, next to the first elevator.

Jugger-nog poster, Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies

Juggernog

2500. Bottom floor of the War Room, next to the door of the Pack-a-Punch room.

The Mule Kick machine in the War Room in Five, Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies

Mule Kick

4000. In the War Room, across from a Mystery Box spot. Added to the map by a later update.

Weapons

Every game starts with an M1911, the knife and frag grenades. Eleven things are bought off the walls, two of them in the conference room:

Conference room

The Olympia and the M14, 500 each. In the First Room.

Hallway

The MPL, 1000.

War Room

The MP5K and the PM63, 1000 each, on the top floor; the Stakeout, 1500, by the cargo elevator below.

Labs

The AK-74u and the M16, 1200 each, the Bowie Knife for 3000, Claymores for 1000 and frag grenades for 250.

The Mystery Box adds the rest, with the Ray Gun, the Monkey Bomb and the map’s new Wonder Weapon, the Winter’s Howl, a freeze gun that turns zombies to ice.

Every weapon, its price, its place and its upgrade

Power, DEFCON and Pack-a-Punch

The power switch in the labs in Five, Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies

The power switch is in the middle of the labs. Throwing it turns on the perks, the teleporters, the DEFCON switches and the two electric traps, darkens the top floor, and brings the Pentagon Thief and his rounds.

Elevators

The first one, in the hallway, opens for 1000 and goes down to the War Room; the larger cargo elevator joins the War Room to the labs. Every trip costs 250.

Teleporters

Pads on every floor, the conference room included, linked once the power is on.

DEFCON

Four switches around the War Room take the Pentagon to DEFCON 5. Every teleporter then leads to the hidden Pack-a-Punch room.

Pack-a-Punch

5000 points, for about 30 seconds after the room opens. A Bonfire Sale drops the price to 1000.

Power, elevators, teleporters and the Pack-a-Punch room

Mystery Box

A television showing the Mystery Box symbol above a Box spot in Five, Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies

950 points a spin, on six spots. A television hangs above each one, and the screens show where the Box is once the power is on.

Labs

Three spots, in the animal testing lab, the weapons testing lab and the small lab. The Box always starts on one of them.

Top floor

Two spots, on either side of the conference room. Never the starting spot.

War Room

One spot, across from Mule Kick. Never the starting spot.

The power-ups of the map are Max Ammo, Insta-Kill, Double Points, Nuke, Carpenter, Fire Sale and the Death Machine, a minigun for 30 seconds, new in Five. The Bonfire Sale, unique to the map, only comes from the Pentagon Thief.

Easter egg

Five has no main quest. Its Easter egg is a song: hold the use button on three red telephones to play “Won’t Back Down” by Eminem featuring Pink.

  1. The first telephone is in the conference room, close to Quick Revive.
  2. The second is on a desk in the room of the power switch, in the labs.
  3. The third is in the Pack-a-Punch room, on a table next to a barrier.

Secrets

Richtofen’s portrait

It hangs in the Pack-a-Punch room, with a blank frame like the ones of Kino der Toten. A portrait of Dempsey sits behind the wall, only visible out of bounds.

The old teleporter

In the labs, left of the AK-74u, the frame of an older teleporter shows through a zombie barrier.

The Winter’s Howl on the bench

In the weapons testing lab, a Winter’s Howl lies on a table among tools, in front of two targets covered in ice.

“Ignomo Jubilus”

A scrap of paper on a lectern of the conference room, already seen in Kino der Toten.

The pig

A live pig hangs from a crane in the animal testing lab, and can be killed.

World at War pictures

The hallway has a plaque about the Battle of Peleliu, a picture of Sergeant Roebuck, and next to the MPL a portrait of Major John Plaster, who worked on the game.

Achievements

One achievement belongs to Five. Three others come with the Zombies mode of the base game and can be earned here too.

Hands Off the Merchandise achievement icon, Call of Duty Black Ops

Hands Off the Merchandise

20G, Bronze. Kill the Pentagon Thief before he steals a weapon. Impossible in a First Room game, since he needs the power.

The Collector achievement icon, Call of Duty Black Ops

The Collector

20G, Silver. Buy every weapon off the walls in a single game; on Five the list includes the Bowie Knife.

Sacrificial Lamb achievement icon, Call of Duty Black Ops

Sacrificial Lamb

15G, Bronze. Kill 6 zombies after being shot by a Pack-a-Punched Crossbow bolt.

See Me, Stab Me, Heal Me achievement icon, Call of Duty Black Ops

See Me, Stab Me, Heal Me

15G, Bronze. Revive a downed teammate from a distance with a Pack-a-Punched Ballistic Knife.

Trivia

  • “Five” stands for the five sides of the Pentagon and the five DEFCON levels. The game files call the map zombie_pentagon.
  • Trying to enter the Pack-a-Punch room too early shows “115 Clearance Required”, and calling an elevator during a Thief round shows “Access Denied: Security Protocol 115”.
  • Unused voice lines show that the Wunderwaffe DG-2, the Thundergun and the Hellhounds were once planned for the map.
  • Nixon drinking Speed Cola keeps saying “I’m not a crook!”.
  • The song of the game over screen is “Abracadavre”, played in full as the Easter egg song of the next map, Ascension.
  • The map is missing from the Wii version of the game.
  • Black Ops 4 remade the map as Classified, with a mostly identical layout, new rooms, and Hellhounds in place of the Thief.
