Gorod Krovi:
Guard of Fafnir

The Guard of Fafnir, the dragon shield of Gorod Krovi: the nine spots of its three parts, the workbench, fire immunity and fireballs, then the three steps and the dip in the dead dragon of Belinski Square that turn it into the Tiamat's Maw.

The Guard of Fafnir, also called the Dragon Shield, is the shield of Gorod Krovi. It is the map’s version of the Zombie Shield: built from three parts, it guards the player’s front when held and the back when stowed, and it breaks after enough hits. On this map it does two more things: it makes the player immune to dragon fire, and its melee throws a fireball. None of its parts is in Belinski Square.

The three parts

Each part has three possible spots, all in the same area. The shield is built at the workbench of the Operations Bunker, and a new one can be picked up there each time the old one breaks.

Dragon visage

The dragon head, in the Infirmary. At the top of the stairs from the Operations Bunker, between two small crates by a large broken bookshelf; on the right of the two bunk beds against the stairs to Stamin-Up; or, facing Stamin-Up, on debris under the leftmost of three broken windows.

Core

The red centre, in the Department Store or the Operations Bunker. On a wooden chair in the Juggernog room, by a desk lit by a lamp; on the door of the truck with blue barrels, between the store and the bunker, opposite the GobbleGum machine; or on a shelf in the bunker, right of the electric trap switch.

Maw

The jaws, in the Armory. Beside the Der Wunderfizz spot on the lowest level, on a large piece of wooden floor; upstairs past the doorway by the GobbleGum machine, next to the metal door to the Supply Depot; or on the top level, on a crate along the wall of the Bridge switch.

Using the shield

Fireball

The melee attack sends a green fireball. Three charges, one back each round, all of them with a Max Ammo or a fresh shield from the workbench. A fireball kills a Russian Mangler or a Valkyrie Drone in one hit, armour or not.

Fire immunity

Held in front, it protects from the fire of the dragons and from the beam of the Gigant Eye trap. It must be out before the fire lands.

Bash

The normal melee with the shield, which counts toward the kills of the upgrade.

Killing 10 zombies at once with it earns the achievement Blown Away.

Tiamat’s Maw

The upgraded shield shoots red fireballs and takes 35 hits from zombies before it breaks. Progress is shared in co-op, and once one player has made it, everyone can take it from the workbench.

  1. Stand in a spot the dragon is about to burn, shield up, and stay in the fire with the shield held for the whole blast. Do it at least twice.
  2. Kill 50 zombies with the shield, with the bash or the fireball. A sound plays when it is done. Steps 1 and 2 can be done in either order.
  3. After the kills, three purple inscriptions appear around the map. Hit each one with a fireball: in Dragon Command, from the left platform of the dragon station, looking left; in the Supply Depot, opposite the ramp up to Speed Cola, looking up at the broken roof; in the Tank Factory, from the right platform of the dragon station, looking right at the shoulder of the fallen Gigant.
  4. Go to the dead dragon in Belinski Square, near the Trials tombstones, and hold the use button. The shield is dipped in the blood and comes out as the Tiamat’s Maw, fully charged and repaired.

Out of fireballs for step 3, a player can let the shield break and take a new one at the workbench: it comes back with three charges.
