The First Room

Nikolai overlooking Belinski Square, the starting area, Gorod Krovi, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

On ZFRR, the Gorod Krovi First Room is Belinski Square, the ruined square of Stalingrad where the players land. It is a small area dug with trenches and crossed by sandbags and barbed wire, with the body of a dead dragon lying right behind the spawn. The players start with 500 points, an MR6 pistol, the knife and frag grenades.

The square has a single door: the entrance to the ground floor of the Department Store, sold for 500 points. In a First Room game it stays closed, so the whole game is played in the square. The power switch is far away in Dragon Command, so the power stays off for the whole game.

RK5 burst pistol, Gunsmith render, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

RK5

500 points, a three-round burst pistol, on a wall of the square.

Sheiva semi-automatic rifle, Gunsmith render, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

Sheiva

500 points, a semi-automatic rifle, on a wall of the square.

Those are the only two wall buys of Belinski Square. The zombies come in through five barriers.

The Quick Revive machine against a brick wall in Belinski Square, Gorod Krovi, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

Quick Revive

The only perk of the square, to the left of the door. 500 points in solo, where it revives you up to three times before the machine leaves the map; 1500 in co-op.

A Trials tombstone with its four symbols and a green flame in Belinski Square, Gorod Krovi, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

The Trials tombstones

Four wooden graves, one per player, each with a board of challenges. A finished Trial is claimed at its grave: a Max Ammo, a Pack-a-Punched weapon or a random perk bottle. The bottom Trial, for the Gauntlet of Siegfried, needs the Hatchery and cannot be finished from the square.

The GobbleGum machine

To the right of the door. The ZFRR Gorod Krovi board is played without any GobbleGum, so it stays unused.

No Mystery Box

No Box spot is in the square. The closest one is on the Department Store balcony that overlooks the spawn, reached only from inside the store.

No trap

The electric trap of the first door is worked from the Department Store side.

The sewer exit

A pipe in the corner by Quick Revive is the end of the sewer that brings players back from the Hatchery. It only works one way.

Doors closed, the square still sees every enemy of the map that does not need the power. Valkyrie Drone rounds start between rounds 9 and 12 and come back every 8 to 10 rounds, each ending with a Max Ammo, and the drones turn zombies into Electrified Zombies. Russian Mangler Soldiers can climb through the barriers from round 9 in solo and round 6 in co-op. The dragons flying over the city breathe fire on parts of the map, and zombies caught in it become Napalm Zombies.

The Gorod Krovi leaderboard keeps separate boards for solo and for two, three and four players. Its rules:

Doors closed

Reach the highest round you can without opening any door.

No GobbleGums

The game is played without gums. The only one named as allowed is Crawl Space, in co-op games, for sleeper purposes.

Trials

Patching your challenges is allowed; patching the rewards they give is not.

Full rounds

Every round must be played in full, and glitches and exploits are not allowed.

Video

The whole game must be recorded. Each player shows their gum loadout before, during or after the game; in co-op, a player who does not show the lobby before or after the game must provide their own point of view.

Where to post it

A Twitch video must be saved as a highlight, since past broadcasts are not accepted; a YouTube video must be public or unlisted.

Overview

A dragon flying over the burning ruins of Stalingrad, promotional art, Gorod Krovi, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

Gorod Krovi, Russian for “City of Blood”, is the Zombies map of Descent, the third map pack of Call of Duty: Black Ops III. The mission briefing sums it up: “As their journey nears its end, our heroes must battle ancient beasts in the war torn ruins of Stalingrad…” The map brought dragons, the Russian Mangler Soldier, the Valkyrie Drone, the GKZ-45 Mk3, the Guard of Fafnir, the Dragon Strike and the Gauntlet of Siegfried.

The story follows Zetsubou No Shima. In this version of history, the Battle of Stalingrad never ended: Group 935 sends dragons against the Red Army, which answers with mechanized soldiers. The Primis crew falls into the city through a portal to find the original Nikolai Belinski and keep his soul in the Summoning Key. Descent also holds four multiplayer maps: Berserk, Cryogen, Empire and Rumble.

Characters

The four playable characters are the Primis crew, the younger versions of the heroes of Origins.

Enemies

A zombie with glowing red eyes in an army cap, promotional screenshot, Gorod Krovi, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

Zombies

The dead of the battle, with red eyes, as in Mob of the Dead.

A Russian Mangler Soldier with its arm cannon and sickles, Gorod Krovi, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

Russian Mangler Soldiers

Armoured zombies with sickles and an arm cannon, close to the Panzersoldat but with less health. Up to four at a time. Shooting off the arm cannon makes them sprint.

A Valkyrie Drone glowing blue with electricity, Gorod Krovi, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

Valkyrie Drones

Flying drones that replace the Hellhounds. A drone dies by having its front panel and camera shot, or by losing its three arms, which sends it into a self-destruct charge.

A dragon breathing fire over the ruins, Gorod Krovi, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

Dragons

Their scales make them invulnerable during normal play. They land and breathe fire on parts of the map, and the fire lingers for a few seconds. Embers around the screen warn of a blast.

Electrified Zombies

Zombies hit by a Valkyrie Drone, with blue eyes. They slow the player and blur the screen when they hit.

Napalm Zombies

Zombies set alight by dragon fire, which explode when killed.

The end of the Easter egg adds a dragon boss and the original Nikolai’s mech, which deploys R.A.P.S. drones.

GKZ-45 Mk3

A dual-wielded wonder weapon from the Mystery Box. The GKZ-45 in the left hand fires yellow clouds that slow zombies; the Ray Gun Mark III in the right fires piercing shots. A shot of the Ray Gun into a cloud makes a black hole.

A player holding the Guard of Fafnir, its dragon jaws around the body, Gorod Krovi, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

Guard of Fafnir

The shield of the map, built from three parts. Held in front, it protects from dragon fire, and it shoots fireballs. It can be upgraded into the Tiamat’s Maw.

The Gauntlet of Siegfried with the dragon whelp perched on it, first-person view, Gorod Krovi, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

Gauntlet of Siegfried

The Specialist weapon, a dragon whelp on an iron gauntlet, hatched from a Dragon Egg. The whelp breathes fire or flies off to fight on its own.

Dragon Strike

Earned in a lockdown at the Hatchery. It marks a spot that a dragon then bombs with fireballs, and can be upgraded into the Draconite Controller.

Monkey Bomb

From the Box, and it can be upgraded on this map through a side quest.

Time Trial melee weapons

The Wrench, the Malice, the Slash N’ Burn and the Fury’s Song, bought in the Operations Bunker after reaching round 5, 10, 15 or 20 fast enough. Unlike the knife, they take a weapon slot.

Every weapon, its price and its place

Power, dragons and Pack-a-Punch

The power switch is just inside Dragon Command. Turning it on wakes S.O.P.H.I.A.; talking to her lets zombies drop Code Cylinders. Each one calls a Groph Pod down from the sky, to be defended from zombies until it opens on a part of the Dragon Network Controller. With the three parts placed in the Operations Bunker, a red dragon can be called for 500 points at Dragon Command, the Tank Factory or the Supply Depot. It flies the player to the Hatchery, where the Pack-a-Punch machine is.

A red dragon setting a Stalingrad street on fire, promotional art, Gorod Krovi, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

Dragon fire

The dragons over the city land and burn parts of the map on their own. The fire kills players who stay in it too long and turns zombies into Napalm Zombies.

Pack-a-Punch

5000 points for the first upgrade and 2500 for each new pack, which gives the weapon an alternate ammo type. Pack-a-Punched weapons wear a dragon-scale camouflage.

The sewer

A pipe in the Hatchery basement takes the player back to Belinski Square.

The power, the Groph Pods, the dragon ride and the Hatchery

Traps and utilities

The red beam of the Gigant Eye Beam trap in the Supply Depot, Gorod Krovi, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

Flinger Traps

1000 points, three of them: at the entrance of Dragon Command and on both sides of the Hatchery.

Next to the path to the Department Store. Possible starting spot.

Infirmary

By the Bridge. Possible starting spot.

Dragon Command

In the room to the left of the dragon platform.

Department Store

On the balcony above the spawn.

Supply Depot

To the left of the entrance, next to the air valve.

Tank Factory

In the room above Double Tap, next to the dragon platform.

The Box brings new weapons to Black Ops III Zombies: the PPSh-41, the dual NX ShadowClaw, the L4 Siege, the FFAR and the GKZ-45 Mk3. It also holds the Ray Gun and the Monkey Bomb.

GobbleGum

Gorod Krovi has eight GobbleGum machines, one of them in Belinski Square, to the right of the door to the Department Store. They give up to three gums a round, the first one free. The ZFRR board for this map is a no-gum board: the machine of the square is left alone, and each player shows their gum loadout on video to prove it.

Easter egg: Love and War

The main quest asks the crew to “free the one”: to reach the original Nikolai and kill him to keep his soul. It can be done in solo. It needs the power, the Guard of Fafnir, the Dragon Network Controller, the Dragon Strike and the Gauntlet of Siegfried.

The original Nikolai's mech, a modified Manticore, cinematic, Gorod Krovi, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

The boss fight

Behind Belinski Square, a dragon, then the original Nikolai in his mech. Winning gives every player all the perks, with no perk limit.

The Master Code Cylinder

A Valkyrie Drone destroyed by a generator in the Hatchery starts five minutes to turn six valves around the map and push a cylinder through the pipes.

KRONOS

Trials and wearables

Belinski Square holds four Trials tombstones, one per player. Each has three random Trials, done alone, and a fourth one at the bottom, shared by the team, for the Gauntlet of Siegfried. Four Time Trials unlock melee weapons, and three wearables are unlocked by challenges: the Mangler Helmet, the Valkyrie Drone Hat and the Dragon Wings.

Trivia

  • The game files call the map zm_stalingrad.
  • The intro plays “Ace of Spades” by Motörhead on the original Nikolai’s radio while the crew parachutes into the city.
  • Near the four wooden headstones of the spawn, a sign wrapped in barbed wire reads “Vengeance is mine! – V.R”, for Viktor Reznov. The achievement Viktorious Revenge is spelled with a “K” for the same reason.
  • From the barrier next to the GobbleGum machine, a street sign reads “Richard Rodriguez”, the name of the winner of a “Be a Zombie” contest run by Activision and Treyarch.
  • In the spawn area, what looks like a pair of glowing white eyes can be seen down a sewage pipe.
  • Pianos around the map hold sheets of music titled “Revelations”, the name of the next and last map of Black Ops III.
  • During the fight against the original Nikolai, the Soviet national anthem can be heard.
  • The ending ends on “To be concluded…” and the title of Revelations; that screen is missing from the PC version.
  • A title update in April 2018 made the quest crash during the ending cutscene. It was fixed on PC in July 2018 and on consoles in August 2019.
