The First Room

The yard of the House, the starting area of Revelations, seen along its length, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

On ZFRR, the Revelations First Room is the House, the starting area: what is left of Doctor Monty’s house and its yard, broken off and floating in Agartha. It is not the Nacht der Untoten building, which is a separate hub behind a portal. The players appear in the yard with 500 points, an MR6, the knife and frag grenades. The area is spacious, with room to run, but it is long and fairly linear: players can mostly move in one direction and back.

Three ways lead out, and a First Room game uses none of them: the debris on the left, 500 points, down to the jump pad to the Origins trenches; the debris on the right, 750 points, down to the jump pad to Shangri-La; and the church at the end of the yard, whose portal leads to Nacht der Untoten once the Corruption Engine in front of it has been overridden.

RK5 burst pistol, Gunsmith render, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

RK5

500 points, a three-round burst pistol on the wall of the starting area.

Sheiva semi-automatic rifle, Gunsmith render, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

Sheiva

500 points, a slow, accurate semi-automatic rifle, also in the starting area.

Those are the only two wall buys of the House, the same pair every original Black Ops III map puts at the spawn.

A GobbleGum machine, render, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

The GobbleGum machine

To the right of the debris that leads to Origins. The ZFRR board for this map is played without GobbleGums.

Quick Revive

The only perk of the House, right in front of the house. 500 points in solo, 1500 in co-op.

The Corruption Engine

One of the four engines of the map, in front of the church. Overriding it costs 500 points and means holding off a small horde for about 30 seconds; it then opens the church portal to Nacht der Untoten.

The Mystery Box spot

A Box location sits right next to where the players appear, but it is never the starting spot, and with the doors closed nobody can reach the Box to move it. In practice the First Room has no Mystery Box.

The broken truck

Parked in front of the players at the start. In a game hosted by someone who has finished A Better Tomorrow, a spark hums in its headlight, used much later for Takeo’s katana.

The tombstones

Two floating islands on the left of the yard carry four graves with the names of the Origins crew, the first step of the main quest.

There is no trap in the House: the two traps of the map are in the Verrückt and Origins sections. Zombies climb into the yard through windows around it. Margwas start to come between rounds 11 and 13 and the first Panzersoldat between rounds 18 and 21 on this map.

The records standing today, solo to four players, are shown next to this article, and the Revelations leaderboard lists every run with its video. Revelations has a single board, and its rules are short:

Doors closed

Reach the highest round possible without opening any door. No glitch or exploit is allowed, and every round must be played in full.

No GobbleGums

The board is played without gums, and each player has to show their gum loadout before, during or after the game.

Crawl Space in co-op

The one exception. In co-op games, the Crawl Space gum is allowed to set up a crawler, a zombie left alive so the players can rest between rounds.

Video

The full game must be on video. In co-op, each player who does not appear in the lobby before or after the game needs their own point of view. A Twitch broadcast must be saved as a highlight, a YouTube video public or unlisted.

Overview

The Giant Apothicon flying over the church and the islands of Revelations, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

Revelations is the Zombies map of the Salvation map pack and the last original Zombies map of Call of Duty: Black Ops III. It ends the Black Ops III storyline. The map takes place in Agartha, after the Shadowman broke out of the Summoning Key: what was Doctor Monty’s perfect world is now a set of floating islands, built from pieces of earlier maps. Fragments of Nacht der Untoten, Verrückt, Kino der Toten, Shangri-La, Mob of the Dead, Origins and Der Eisendrache make up the map, with smaller touches of Shi No Numa, Buried and Zetsubou No Shima. Players travel between the islands by jump pads and portals rather than through doors.

The map brought the Corruption Engines and a new enemy, the Fury, and brought back the Margwa, the Panzersoldat, the Parasites, the Spiders, the Guard of Fafnir and the Ragnarok DG-4. It was released on PlayStation 4 only, then on Xbox One and PC a month later; like the other DLC maps after Der Eisendrache, it never came to PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.

1500 for a random perk, at one of four spots: by the lower door of Kino der Toten, in Verrückt, in the Origins trenches and on top of the Mound.

Weapons

Every game starts with an MR6, the knife and frag grenades; players who finished A Better Tomorrow also start with an RK5. Thirteen guns, the Bowie Knife and Trip Mines are sold on the walls, two of the guns in the House, and a secret adds an M1927:

The House

The RK5 and the Sheiva, 500 each. In the First Room.

Origins

The Pharo for 700 and the KRM-262 for 750 in the trenches, the Vesper for 1250, the VMP for 1300 and the KN-44 for 1400 around the Mound.

Nacht der Untoten and Shangri-La

The L-CAR 9 for 750 in both, the Vesper in Nacht, the KRM-262 in Shangri-La.

Verrückt and Mob of the Dead

The KN-44, Trip Mines for 1000 and the HVK-30 for 1600 in Verrückt; the Argus for 1100 and the HVK-30 in the cafeteria.

The Bowie Knife for 3000 and the ICR-1 for 1500 in the theater; the Kuda for 1250, the M8A7 for 1500 and the VMP in the Undercroft.

The Mystery Box holds the rest, with five Wonder Weapons: the Ray Gun, the Thundergun, the Apothicon Servant, the Li’l Arnie and the Ragnarok DG-4, which here is the map’s Specialist weapon and comes out of the Box instead of being built. The Guard of Fafnir, the dragon shield, is built from three parts.

Corruption Engines and Pack-a-Punch

The Giant Apothicon carrying off the Pack-a-Punch machine in Revelations, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

Revelations has no power switch. At the start of the game a Giant Apothicon has swallowed the Pack-a-Punch machine, and getting it back takes four steps.

Inside the Giant Apothicon, its flesh walls and green acid pool, in Revelations, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

Inside the Apothicon

Walk into its mouth and shoot the yellow tubes on each side of the sac to free the Pack-a-Punch, 5000 points per upgrade.

The four Corruption Engines

In the House, Der Eisendrache, Mob of the Dead and Verrückt. Each costs 500 to override, then a small horde has to be held off for about 30 seconds.

The Death Ray panel

Once the four engines run, a panel next to Juggernog in Nacht der Untoten lights up when the Giant Apothicon flies past. Using it traps the beast.

Corruption Turrets

Each overridden engine becomes a beam turret that can be used against the hordes.

The engines, the Giant Apothicon and the Pack-a-Punch

Mystery Box

950 points a spin. Revelations has the most Box locations of any map, ten, and the Box sends up a green beam instead of the usual blue one. It always starts at one of two spots: Generator 3 in Origins, or the room of the four Keeper statues in Der Eisendrache. The spot in the House is never the first one.

GobbleGum

Nine GobbleGum machines stand around the map, one of them in the House. They do not matter on the ZFRR board, which is played without gums, apart from Crawl Space in co-op. Two map details involve gums: the Perkaholic gum, then three knife hits on Quick Revive while it plays its jingle, gives a version of the jingle sung by Monty; and the main quest suggests Danger Closest against the elemental zombies of the boss fights.

Easter egg

The Summoning Key glowing in a burst of light, For The Good Of All achievement art, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

The main quest, For The Good Of All, has players open the Summoning Key and defeat the Shadowman. It can be done solo. Done after the main quests of the five earlier Black Ops III maps, it also completes A Better Tomorrow, the final quest of the game.

Preparation

Build the Keeper Protector altar, and get the Apothicon Servant, upgraded, and the Li’l Arnies from the Box.

Three audio reels

Shoot the tombstones by the House in order, protect the Keeper during a ritual, throw Li’l Arnies into nine holes inside the Apothicon, rebuild Sophia’s body with bone fragments.

Sophia and the Kronorium

Bring Sophia back with the Corruption Turrets, follow her to the Kino teleporter and fetch the Kronorium from Samantha’s room.

Gateworms and runes

Hatch four Apothicon eggs into Gateworms and use them to find the four Runes of Creation.

The Summoning Key

Win it back in the boss arena against waves of Margwas, then throw it at seven objects from earlier quests.

The Shadowman

Break his shield with Sophia’s beam, shoot him into the mouth of the Apothicon statue, and finish him with the Kronorium.

For The Good Of All, step by step, and A Better Tomorrow

Secrets

The Path of Sorrows, Takeo's katana, Gunsmith render, Call of Duty Black Ops III Zombies

Takeo’s katana

After A Better Tomorrow, the spark in the truck’s headlight unlocks the Path of Sorrows and makes every weapon bought come out upgraded.

The Gift

Hats and masks

Eight wearable items, unlocked by hidden challenges, give a purple Juggernog or Stamin-Up effect and more.

Trials

Three challenge boards in Nacht der Untoten reward a Max Ammo, an upgraded weapon and a random perk.

The chalk table

Moving six chalk drawings unlocks a table in Nacht der Untoten that stores or shares a weapon, and puts an M1927 on a wall.

Radios and wisps

Thirteen radios and the wisps of Monty and the Shadowman tell the end of the story.

The eight hats and masks, and the three Trials

The song, the chalk table, the katana, the free perk and the radios

Trivia

  • The game files call the map zm_genesis: Genesis is the first book of the Bible, Revelation the last.
  • Revelations is the only map where players reach the other areas only by flying or teleporting.
  • The music at the end and start of a round changes with the fragment the player stands in, and so does the game over song.
  • The map selection screen lights up the Summoning Key and the four Gateworms of the earlier quests that the player has finished.
  • The message “This door is opened elsewhere” is a nod to the locked doors of Quake.
  • Unused files show that the Rocket Shield was first planned before the Guard of Fafnir, and that Monty and the Shadowman were meant to be announcers.
  • The Furies are much larger in the trailer than in the game.
  • At the end, Monty sends Primis back to the Great War: the last image is the Origins crew with the elemental staffs, before the words “THE END”.
