Three traps

Mob of the Dead brought traps back to Zombies, absent since Ascension. There are three of them, all new, and all three cost 1000 points. Each one sits on a doorway or a dead end.

Fan and Acid

Fan Trap

Spinning blades fill the doorway of the Warden’s Office. The office door cannot be bought with points, so the trap only works once it is open.

Acid Trap

Acid rains down at the Cafeteria entrance. You cannot walk through it while it runs.

Both down you

Like most traps, they kill zombies on contact and down a player who steps in.

Tower Trap

Down on the docks, a sniper tower covers the dead end where the path turns back, by the Mystery Box spot. Paying 1000 points sets the tower firing semi-automatic shots at every zombie in range.

Shock to upgrade

While the trap is running, a voltmeter shows up at the tower. A player in Afterlife shocks it.

Rockets

Once upgraded, the tower fires rockets instead of bullets.

Warden killer

It is the only trap that can kill Brutus, if he stays in range long enough.

Brutus and the traps

Brutus is not hurt by the Fan Trap or the Acid Trap. When he walks into an active trap, he stops for a moment and shuts it down. Against him, those two traps buy you a few seconds, nothing more.

Trapped in Time

The Trapped in Time achievement asks you to use and upgrade every trap before round 10. In practice:

  1. Open the Warden’s Office and run the Fan Trap.
  2. Open the Cafeteria and run the Acid Trap.
  3. Go down to the docks and run the Tower Trap.
  4. While it fires, go into Afterlife and shock the voltmeter to upgrade it.

Plan on 3000 points for the three activations, all before round 10. The full list is on the achievements page.

The Gondola

Not a trap but a utility: the Gondola links the top floor of the cell block, on the Michigan side, to the docks, near Juggernog.

750 points

Each trip costs 750 points, in either direction.

Shock first

Before its first ride, it has to be powered from Afterlife with a shock.

Timer between rides

After each trip it needs to cool down before it can move again.

In a First Room game

None of the three traps is in the starting cell block: the closest ones guard the Warden’s Office and the Cafeteria. A First Room run on Mob of the Dead is played without any trap and without the Gondola.
