The Skull of Nan Sapwe

The Skull of Nan Sapwe is the Specialist weapon of Zetsubou No Shima, the skull of a Keeper sealed under the ritual area. Held up, it glows and works on every enemy in its field of view.

Vaporize

Lifts zombies into the air and destroys them. Thrashers die too, only more slowly, which makes it the easiest way to kill one before it becomes enraged.

Mesmerize

Makes zombies, spiders and Thrashers docile, and reveals hidden things around the map.

The four bloody skulls

Four bloody skulls rest on the altar of the ritual area, between the spawn and Lab B. Each one bears a symbol, carved into its forehead. The same symbols mark four cleansing pedestals around the map, and they change places from game to game.

The spawn area

By the large central rock, before the way up to the GobbleGum machine.

The crashed plane

By the Propeller Trap, closest to its lowest switch.

The Docks

To the left of the main power switch, among wooden crates.

The operations room

Downstairs in the Bunker, next to the benches of the KT-4 and the Masamune.

The cleansings

  1. Take one skull from the altar and place it on the pedestal with the same symbol. More than one skull can be cleansed in a round, but only one can be carried at a time.
  2. Zombies glowing green rise and go for the skull, not for the player unless the player stands in their way. Kill them before they break it.
  3. The second and fourth cleansings add spiders, and the third and fourth can add Thrashers. Spiders and Thrashers attack the player, never the pedestal.
  4. The enemies of a cleansing give no points and do not count towards the round. When the cleansing ends, every one of them dies.
  5. A success gives every player 500 points: take the clean, white skull back to the altar. A failure sends the skull back to the altar on the next round.

The chamber of the Skull

With the four clean skulls back on the altar, a staircase opens in front of it, where the fallen tree was. Below, the Skull of Nan Sapwe rests uncharged on a pedestal. Picking it up locks the room, and Keepers come for the Skull. They must be killed to charge it: twenty in solo. While the defence lasts, the zombies outside are docile. Once it ends, the room opens again and the Skull is the player’s, with the achievement The Ultimate Sacrifice.

Inside the chamber, Mesmerize reveals Keeper runes on the walls. They tell of a Keeper who protected the island and its people, and who gave his life when an evil rose, his skull then sealed away.

What Mesmerize reveals

The blueprint

The torn paper on the wall in the corner of the Living Quarters, across from the purple water. Revealing it unlocks every other hidden wall.

The elevator door

A rusted door to the left of the elevator of the Bunker, hiding the broken machinery of the Easter egg.

The Masamune planter

A stone wall in the underwater tunnels, to the right of where the KT-4 plant was found.

The Golden Bucket planter

Vines under Lab B, once one plant of each kind has been grown.

The red mist spider

During a spider round, the one spider needed for the Spider Bait.

The friendly spore

A wall to the left of the test subjects room in the Bunker, hiding a spore behind branches.

In the First Room

One of the four pedestals stands in the spawn area, but the bloody skulls stay on the altar of the ritual area, beyond the doors. The Skull of Nan Sapwe cannot be had in a First Room game.
