The workbenches

Zetsubou No Shima has two buildables, the Zombie Shield and the Gas Mask, each made of three parts with three possible spots per part. They are built on a workbench, such as the ones in Lab A and Lab B. The KT-4 has its own bench in the Bunker.

The KT-4 and the Masamune

Zombie Shield

The shield of Origins, found again overgrown after years on the island. Held in front, it blocks attacks from the front; on the back, from behind. It breaks after enough hits and must be taken again from the bench. Its bash kills a zombie in one hit until round 20 and gives 10 points per zombie hit, but no points for a kill. On this map it cannot be planted on the ground.

First part

On the anti-aircraft platform of the Bunker, near the Mystery Box spot, on a pile of broken wall, or near a barrier.

Second part

Around Lab A, next to the Kuda, on a support beam under the lab, or near the barriers.

Third part

Around Lab B, on a tree over a hill facing the lab, on the wall opposite that tree, or under the main part of the lab.

When every player has finished their Trials of the Ancients, lightning strikes the ritual altar from time to time. A player holding the shield there is struck and the shield becomes electrified. It then kills the zombies that touch it, and a melee with it works the cages of Lab A and Lab B and the zipline panel, which the Masamune, the Spider Bait and the Easter egg need. A zombie electrocuted with it earns the achievement Assault with Battery.

Gas Mask

The Gas Mask protects from the orange spore clouds of the walls and of the Thrashers, which otherwise make the player cough and stop sprinting and shooting. It also gives more time underwater. It does not take an equipment slot, so it can be worn with the shield. It wears out after about ten clouds, with its remaining strength shown on screen, and must then be taken again from the bench. The blue clouds made by the KT-4 do not wear it. Every player needs one for the final fight of the Easter egg.

The strap

By the crashed plane of the Propeller Trap, hanging on metal rebar at its back or front entrance, or on a boulder to the left of the Mystery Box, behind the Pharo.

The mask

By the green water behind Lab B, on a wooden crate: on the right path coming from under Lab B, next to the wheelbarrow by the meteorite, or by the perk machine on the catwalk.

The breathing tube

In the pedestal area by the Docks, on a boulder to the left of the VMP, on a crate next to the pedestal, or on a crate next to the end of the zipline.

In the First Room

No part lies in the spawn area and no workbench stands there: a First Room game is played without shield and without mask, with nothing to stop the coughing of the spore that grows by the path to Lab A.
