The Giant, the Group 935 factory where the teleporters were built and where Pack-a-Punch appears for the first time. Der Riese is where the story of Zombies actually begins, and where most of the series lore is written on the walls.
Three teleporters to link to the mainframe, the Wunderwaffe DG-2 in the box, the fly trap in the courtyard, and the first real easter egg the community hunted. It is also the map that set the template every later one follows: power, perks, Pack-a-Punch, a wonder weapon.
The First Room is the courtyard by the fly trap. It is generous by Der Riese standards, and that is exactly the trap: the open ground lets you run early, then turns against you once the horde fills it. Two windows and the catwalk above are the only pressure points, and they are enough.

The Der Riese First Room leaderboard on Zombie First Room Rankings tracks every verified run held in the starting room of Der Riese, on Call of Duty : Black Ops. 78 records are listed here, and the best rounds on record are 54 in solo by Novariox, 50 in two players by Madsqauwker, 45 in 3 players by MasterSmexy and 43 in 4 players by Zi0.
Der Riese counts in one ranking. The difficulty coefficient multiplies every round reached here, which is how a round 30 on a tight starting room can be worth more than a round 50 on an open one: “High Rounds” First Room (solo 7.3, two players 5.5).
Der Riese is remembered for the Giant factory, Pack-a-Punch's first appearance, the three teleporters and the catwalk and the furnace. The crew: Tank Dempsey, Nikolai Belinski, Takeo Masaki and Edward Richtofen. Weapons and wonder weapons: Wunderwaffe DG-2, Monkey Bomb, MP40 and Ray Gun. Perks on the map: Juggernog, Quick Revive, Speed Cola and Double Tap Root Beer.
First Room is the purest discipline in Call of Duty Zombies: no Pack-a-Punch run around the map, no easter egg, no train through open ground. You hold the spawn room of Der Riese, you keep the doors closed, and you push the round counter as far as the horde allows. Every high round, world record and personal best on this page is backed by its video and checked against the reference boards before it is listed.
Rules / Informations
We do not maintain our own ruleset. ZFRR follows the competitive First Room rules written and maintained by the player Zi0 on his site B2, the reference used across the Zombies community.
B2 gathers the global rules (no memory tools, no macros, no out-of-bounds glitches, no emulators) and those specific to the First Room category: doors stay closed, fast ray, rapid fire and the fast-throw grenade glitch are forbidden, while fast knifing and split-screen remain allowed. Every change is voted on publicly.

The 5and5 Mod is an unofficial First Room, played with 5and5's Black Ops mod: it carries no difficulty coefficient and scores no ranking points.
The rules below are the ones this board is held to, with the download of the mod. The usual submission requirements apply as well: full gameplay, sufficient game audio, no HUD covering, no cheating.

- The mod needs game_mod, installed in the Black Ops folder; the game is then launched with the « First Rooms » shortcut.
